I have template set up in Reaper to start with Jamstix 3 loaded on the kit I use most often.

Somehow, which I can't figure out how, it started to only produce audio out of the right channel. When I load a second instance of JS3 in the same project, the second instance plays out both channels as it should. Other plugins work properly out of both channels as well.

It's easy enough just to create a new template but I am curious as to what I might have done to cause this. Is there a key combo or mouse plus key combo for muting channels that I could have accidentally activated?

The mixer looks the same in both JS plugin windows like it is processing both channels. The monitor lights are the same. The mixer is seeing a left and right signal but it's not sending both channels to the host.

Have you checked the Reaper pin settings for the instance of JS that is only playing out of one channel?

Thanks for replying.

I assume perhaps you meant "pan settings" rather than "pin"?

I think I got it now. The GUI shows all the knobs at 12:00. But when I opened the full volume dialog by right clicking the volume slider, I found that I must have accidentally changed the pan setting in there.

That messed me up because I expected the GUI to represent the balance control in the volume dialog so I never bothered to look there.

There is something called a Plugin Pin Connector in Reaper used for routing.

Good job on figuring it out and especially for letting us know how you fixed it in case someone else runs into this.

I know what you're talking about now. I didn't know that it was referred to as the "pin connector".

You managed to get me looking a bit deeper into the pan settings. I could have just used my new template but I had to know what the problem was. I thought it was something in Jamstix because track knobs were centered in Reaper controls.

It also happened while the left channel of my M-Audio powered monitors was gradually weakening and just reached the point where they were useless at low volume. That complicated my troubleshooting. I replaced that with my old Carvin Power amp and monitors. So, I think I'm all set for my next session of unexpected issues.

Thanks again.

Do you have the automation mode set to Read for that track? I am on the latest version of Reaper and when I move the Pan knob this is also reflected in the full volume settings which I think is actually called Sends, Receives, and Hardware Output Options. At last when I hover over the route button this text pops up. Also if I move the Pan slider while that pop up is open, I can see the Pan knob change on the track as expected.

The track I tested on was in the mode I set as default or it maybe default in Reaper which is Trim/Read. If I change it to read then I see what you described about the panning behavior I believe.

Oh btw, you can also click the route button to see the full volume dialog. That is if the route button is seen in your TCP and not hidden.
