How do I route a track consisting of raw MIDI files to Jamstix?

I've never tried working with any MIDI routing so it is somewhat foreign to me. More than somewhat actually.

It might depend upon which DAW you're using somewhat but basically just put your MIDI file on the track Jamstix is on, set Jamstix to MIDI playback mode and select the MIDI input format that matches the format of your chosen MIDI file. Check out pg. 25 & 26 of the user manual.

I'm using Reaper.

The track and JS MIDI in indicators are lighting up when I play the track. It does not appear it is getting to the kit.

I didn't see anything about setting "MIDI playback mode".

Is this "Drum Module Mode"?

I can't use the brains with that?

Not in MIDI playback mode. If you want to use the Brain with existing MIDI, you have to use the Import Style. Are you using JS4 or JS3?

I'm using Jamstix 3.

I've gotten quite familiar with import over the last week or so. After several starts and stops I finally mustered up the discipline to really dig into it.

I'm finding Jamstix to have much more depth than I initially expected when I bought it and much more since the last few weeks..I was hoping that it could be used like a track effect. At first I was finding import to rather cumbersome because I thought JS was mostly about quick and dirty. It turned out to be a rabbit hole that just keeps going deeper. It does quick and dirty, and so much more.

Now that I have become proficient with importing, I'm becoming more satisfied with how it works as I refine my processes.
