Hello,

I was playing around with MIDI grooves from Groove Monkee and trying to load them into the MIDI track of the Jamstix program. I don't have a MIDI module worth a damn on my PC so I want to use the sample quality in the Jamstix program. I tried manual and turned the brain off and then pressed play. I get no kick sound. I then tried to change the events of the MIDI file to match what it should be note wise and still no dice. In reading some other posts, I suspect this is not a function it supports? If so, I'm guessing I need a straight sample player and different samples if I want to use prerendered loops.

Thanks,

Matt

Hi

Which sequencer program are you using?

I'm using Sonar 5. I'm importing in one of the Groove Monkey clips into the MIDI track for Jamstix, but it will not play the kick drum. I've gone into Jamstix to see what key the kick is mapped to and then tried to match what I believe is the kick event in the Groove Monkee files, but no dice. Any thoughts or should I just wait for Ralph to answer.

Thanks,

Matt

This should work fine. What key is the MIDI file using for the kick? Could you send me the rzdlog.txt file from the Jamstix directory to support @ rayzoon.com?

Select 'B0' for the kick in the Jamstix mapping tab and uncheck 'Map GM input' in the 'Sounds' panel of the same tab. That should make the kick work.

By the way, you can also convert MIDI grooves, such as from the Groove Monkey libraries, to Jamstix library rhythms. Simply go to the rhythm tab, click IMPORT and select the MID file. This will not always match the original rhythm 100% since Jamstix must translate MIDI data into logical Jamstix data but it will get close.

This will allow you to have all the limb control, accentuations, probable notes etc. used on the rhythm. You can then also use the Jamstix arranger to build your drum arrangement throughout the song.

Thanks again for your help. I'll give both items a shot later today.

Tried this out and it worked fine. Just curious to know why these two items got it working (so I can work through similar issues in the future).

Thank you,

Matt

B0 is the kick mapping in the original MIDI file you sent so that's what you need to select in the mapping tab for the kick and 'Map GM input' expects the input in GM layout (Kick on C1) so that's why you want to uncheck it.
