Backspace acts like I press it twice. When I backspace one character it does two.

When scrolling through the styles list or drummers with up and down arrow keys it moves up or down two spaces with a single press

Whan I paste a letter based structure into the wizards text box, it pastes twice. Happens whether I use Ctrl-V or paste from right-click.

When I use left and right arrows to move in the wizard text box, it moves two spaces.

Jamstix 3 window is the only place this happens.

Windows 7 64bit
Reaper 6.28 64bit

This is quite annoying.

Letters, numbers, space and punctuation keys are not affected.

Backspace, Del and Arrow keys are all echoed. Why would these keys be echoed but not the others?
It also pastes twice if I use Ctrl-V or paste via the right-click Paste command.

I do remember that I used to experience this double keyboard issue. It was several years ago and I was probably on Windows 7 or 8 (Vista) and (maybe) Jamstix 3 then (not really sure TBH). I don't experience it now. I am on on Windows 10 and Jamstix 4 now and Use Cubase (always have). I know that may not help much...
Sorry I don't have a solution though.

I am on Windows 7 but I am in no hurry for Windows 10 though.

It's good to know I am not the only who experienced this. Do you recall whether if it was only certain keys that were affected? That is the strangest thing about this. Why is it only certain keys?

Do you remember if pasting something pasted it twice?

Thanks for replying.

I also experienced this issue with Jamstix 3 under Windows 7 but it has been a long time ago and I do not remember the specifics any longer. I think it was fixed in an update but I am not positive about that either.

Good to know others had this too. I can't understand why it would be those particular keys only that I listed. I have never seen anything like that and I have seen lots of weird computer stuff over the years.

I installed Cakewalk last night. I'm going to give that a go today and see what happens there.

I installed JS4 free and that seems to work properly with arrow keys.

I didn't notice any places to input text. I can navigate lists and the arrow keys move one line like it is supposed to do.

WTF is going on with JS3? I'm getting really irritated with this.

Why is this getting no dev response?

It does everything else well except for that stupid freaking keyboard issue.

It happens in Cakewalk also, so WTF?

I seem to remember a “pattern” of something like “type a letter then hit the backspace” or maybe, after typing something, “hit the arrow then the backspace”. It mostly was needed for part names. I don’t think it did it on saving when naming files. Again my memory is fuzzy.
Maybe Ralph knew about it and knows of a fix but if it is a bug, I really don’t think it would get fixed in JS3 now that JS4 has been out for several years now.

I've calmed down a bit and figured a workaround for this. Sorry to anyone if I was rude.

I found that "Structures.ini", located in \Jamstix3\Data\ can be edited to update the Song creation presets on the fly. It is a simple text document that you can't mess anything up with. Be sure to keep a backup in case you want to start from scratch again.

For anyone else who might come across this issue in Jamstix 3...

1. Create a shortcut on "desktop" or "taskbar" to "Structures.ini" It doesn't seem to work from a sub-folder.

2. Right-click on the shortcut, select "Properties"

3. In the Properties window, click on "Shortcut Keys" field to activate it.

4. Enter a key combination that will not interfere with your DAW, Jamstix, other plugins or Windows shortcut keys. It is pretty flexible with what you can use. I used "Ctrl-Alt-A". As far as I can tell it does not interfere with anything. If there is a conflict the shortcut may not open the file or may be superceded by a Windows system shortcut.

5. Get back to work

6. ?????

7. Profit

Make sure .ini files are associated with Notepad and don't forget to save after editing or the entry will not appear in the list.

It basically works how I want it to work now. Instead of the Jamstix 3 text entry box, you work in Notepad. The shortcut calls the file up without disrupting your DAW and same if you have it pinned to the taskbar and click it. It just appears like the JS line editor.

I believe this should work in any version of Windows. I know it works from Windows 7 and down since Win95.

The more I think about it the more I think it is an improvement over the JS line editor and it is only one extra action to save. Now you can view the entire structure instead being limited by the number of viewable characters.

If you want to compare potential structures for a song, you can add multiple variations or different songs in one edit.

Even if you're not having the problem I have, it might be worthwhile to try this out if you're using JS3.

It's not too often that a workaround improves quality of life.
