I was hoping to use the bounce feature for the bar editor - I have a complex setup with a blend of jamstix and jamcussion with Superior Drummer or BFD3. The question is, I can't hear any effect to adding bounce in the bar editor - I just hear 1 hit, same as without the setting. (e.g. I have a snare and and another snare, and I set one of them to BOUNCE.) I tried to rule out what could be preventing this fx from sounding. (And I wasn't sure if it was a MIDI effect - playing the MIDI NOTE in 32nd or 32nd triplet, etc; I assumed it was, so I should also hear it in the 3rd party output to Superior Drummer if so... )

In either case I don't hear the effect in the internal snare drum or in SD3. I made sure to lock the notes from being effected by the brain.

While I realize that this may be an effect that depends on the brain in some way - if it does not, I would like to experience it.

And if it is something that "brain" can do if set up right, can someone please tell me how to set it up?

See page 43 of the User Manual and refer to the highlighted paragraph describing how to correct this via "Hit Style Attenuation".

Hi, yes I had tried that. I had done a search and located that and it was already checked and the settings were fairly high and I had turned them to maximum. I also tried every other thing I could think of...except maybe I didn't try changing enough different drummers.

The issue is with Bounce. While I do hear "Double" which seems to be what those settings deal with, I still hear nothing when my setting is "Bounce", even when I slow the tempo to make sure, there is still no Bounce (which should be a kind of 48th triplet, fading out the way "Double" fades out.)

I set up a different drummer and experimented further. The drummer Phil seems easy to get a Bounce from. The drummer "Nick"
may be the issue. When I retry Nick he still is unable to Bounce. (It may be that hitting Preview only once and expecting a change to happen may have confused me as well. I.e. from my brief experience when I adjust knobs and reset from single to double or double to single will not "take" unless "preview" is stopped, and then started again sometimes.

In any rate, maybe you can check with Ralph, but Nick here, in the Bricks style, is not "BOUNCE"ing. I'm just learning here, and I was even not entirely clear (though curious) what the relation between style and drummer is.

I'm just learning the most basic thing about Jamstix, because its a pretty in-depth program.

You may be one of the most knowledgeable people on it, aside from Ralph. I think people don't have patience to understand how beneficial Jamstix is.

I'm just trying to grasp the terms Style and Player now. Lol. They're not as simple and as easy to distinguish as apples and oranges, but from what I gather, when I'm editing the notes on the bar, this is primarily related to the Style. Whereas many of the things that the Player does are very nuanced and just maybe, this Bounce thing (not DOUBLE), whether its suppressed for some reason, is one. In those players that I have thus far gotten to do it, it doesn't sound like a basic triplet. Its a bit more nuanced than that even - and in this case my settings for Swing are all the way done (16th is checked but should have no effect when levels are down.)

All in all I'm just trying to keep my head above water.

Hi perc,

I just checked Nick in a few different styles with different kits and he is definitely double stroking and bouncing Snare hits properly. Go into the Kit window and select the Snare bounce articulation and increase the volume if you are having trouble hearing it. You could then save the kit afterwards.
The Player/Style thing is not really black and white because you're choosing a Style which forms a foundation for your song, rooted in what is considered the "traditional" elements of that style. Then you're throwing a player model into the formula and telling the model "add your idiosycracies to this" while I adjust a virtually infinite number of Brain generators. To me, that is what sets Jamstix light years away from the competition. The possibilities are as close to infinite as is possible, in my opinion. It is also why the lock and save restore point functions are your best friend.
