|
|
I've been away from Jamstix for several years. Trying to work with it again. And I think I forgot a few things. One thing, I noticed, is that there is a way to load MIDI Note routings, but not save them. I remember that from before - and I recall having created some "maps" and having placed them in my folder where Jamstix is looking. So that part shouldn't be a problem for me. But one thing I don't think I ever got around to asking was, when saving the kit (I think there was a save mixer settings choice there somewhere - I'll look in the manual because I didn't see it just now) Reaper DAW seems to have got 'part of it right'. Which is weird behavior. Maybe its because I have Jamcussion loaded as part of my environment? Because I distinctly changed a bunch of mixer routings, so that a bunch of inaudible kit pieces became audible last night. Usually a DAW will save the currently active presets for me and I won't need to save every single vst preset.
But in this case I found when I loaded the project that about half of my changes held.
Its no problem but I'm just wondering why this is,, or does it have to do with the fact that I have jamcussion loaded. When I loaded the "patch" in Jamstix (generic rock) I found that I only heard the kick drum. I then found that there were various mixer channels that I had customized from before. One by one I changed them all back to channel 1 to make them audible. (In Reaper I did not create multiple channels so that explains that part.) The Jamcussion pieces were at channel 7, and the rest were at various other mixer channels. Today when I loaded the Reaper project file, all the Jamcussion routings were forgotten, along with about half of the Jamstix routings (i.e. cymbals and hi hats and toms.)
Again, its no problem but if I understood how to get the automatic preset save function to work reliably it might be a boon. |

| Are you trying to route to multiple outputs or downmix to a single stereo output? If you want a single stereo output, enable downmix in the mixer window. (Lower left side) If you want multiple outputs, disable downmix in the Mixer window, choose an output routing from the "Kit" dropdown menu in the Kit or Mixer window and then save the kit. |

Hi, thanks for your response - I am editing my response because when I tried to click on the downmix text in the mixer (out of curiosity) I found I can't click on it. Then I found a "never downmix" option was checked in the general options.
On my original comment and comment below, no response is needed but just in case it is of use to the team.

Thank you.
Yes, I work with both multtrack and downmix, and I forgot about that downmix thing. But at the moment I was actually preparing to use Jamstix in multitrack mode.
IOW what I was commenting on was that the kit I started from, when edited, and without saving the kit, but only saving the DAW project, still managed to collect part of the new data - new mixer routings (and update that half of the settings so that when I loaded the project file the next time, it had half the changes in there). I wondered if the developer was aware that it was part of it and not NONE or ALL.
A lot of plugins will back up there state in certain DAWs, when one saves the DAW project file. I guess that's similar to me wondering why, when changing the size of the jamstix window, i need to exit the project and open it again. (Or maybe re-start the DAW, I can't remember). Anyway, not complaining, but if this was one of those things that varies depending on the DAW, maybe the information that this is occurring in Reaper would help development. |
