I new to all this drum programming and DAW's. I did a complete song with jamstix and am reasonably happy with it. The one thing that I am having a hard time with is getting the intro and fills to sound like a real drummer that uses two hands. I've messed with the percent snare/toms and percent double hits but still does not sound great. I really think the designers should put in usable intros and fills to start and then we could dumb them down if we want. I've used the drums that come with cakewalk and they have nice intros but I like composing the song in jamstix much better.

Hi Amped_Up,

If you have a MIDI file with an intro you like, you can drag that measure onto Jamstix and Jamstix will play it. I know it is not what you are asking but thought it might help.

I tend to play around with the FILL elements until I find something I like. For me this usually means setting the Character elements. I tend to use Accent for Power Mode and Groove for T-Fill and R-Fill Type most of the time.

The intro song part is more like a count in most of the time. What I usually do if I want a busier intro is use a 1 bar Drum Solo song part type instead. You do not have to use any particular song part type for any given part. HTH

Hey thanks for the suggestions, I have a lot to learn. I've been messing with the drums most of the day and they are sounding pretty decent. One weird thing is I noticed the volume going up on the drums at one point, like someone playing with the volume knob. I have the power all in the same place.

In fact, MANY metal songs just start with a hi hat or a ride, tss,tss, tss, tss...you know, just one accent per down beat in a 4/4, or you can just literally ADD it in, not only like the drag and drop groove method of other midi tracks you already like or have the intro too(easy to find, besides groove monkey, there are endless packs, from XLN and Urgitone,and Toontrack), so just use one of those

But my experience is perfection with Jamstix 4

Not experienced with midi, trying to understand how to manipulate it. I will have to do some reading in how to drag and drop a drum part in. Is it dropped into your DAW or jamstix its self?

Your syntax and messages are very “trumpy,” in that you start with one fragment, Segue into another fragment, and then end in a statement that is phrased in the form of a question - so if you dont mind, please be very clear and articulate, and provide as much info about your “Setup” in your DAW and your workflow so we can help

What I am suggesting is, if you have any other midi, its just like a wav or any other sound file you can drag around and manipulate in a DAW, its just not a “sound” file....so just Drag and Drop ANY midi groove called “intro” from your other metal drummer VST...right into the track where the Jamstix midi was recorded, or drop it in another VST if you want, right in the front of the song....its very easy to do, if you have any idea how to use your DAW....

Which is btw? What are you using? Where are you coming from? What is your DAW and what version of Jamstix are you using, like please specific if you have metal pak too?

Hi Amped_up,

If you have a midi clip that you want to use you can drag and drop it onto the Brain window and a Groove Importer will be automatically added to your song part and the added midi clip will be added to your song part. Alternately, you can also use Brain dropdown menu>Add>Groove Importer to manually add the Importer and then load the midi you want to use through it.
Check out page 36 of the User Manual for info on how the Groove Importer works. If you have any questions feel free to ask for help.
