I can't help but post a quick teaser for the upcoming DrumPak #2. As you may know, that Pak will come with normal CMAS sounds just as the default sounds and other Paks but also with the new CS sounds (Close Stereo). The CS kits do not use ambience at all but have a stereo close mic signal. This allows for more intimate, direct sound and also lends itself well for room simulation etc. in the host application.

Here's a quick demo of the close stereo sound in DrumPak #2. The Pak also comes with a hand clap sound, which kicks in after a few bars in this MP3. It is assigned to the tambourine slot so you can use 'Tambourine On Snare' to quickly add clapping to the snare beat.

Hi

I'm sure the new drumpak will sound great - however in the meantime, can I suggest people try the following to get a closer stereo sound with the current kits :-

- record jamstix as two seperate mono tracks, track 1 = left channel, track 2 = right channel (either by splitting a stero track in your host program, or recording direct to two mono tracks)
- then pan track 1 to "11 o'clock" and track 2 to "1 o'clock"
- optionally set the Ambience to zero on the Output Tab of Jamstix if you intend to use another reverb/ambience plugin.

This should give a closer stereo sound. Also - say if you wanted the drum track over to the left - you could pan the tracks to "8 o'clock" ad "10 o'clock" respectively. (In it's original state the tracks would be hard panned to the left and right).

Ralph
that Mp3 sounds pretty darn good.

When I play the soundset samples that come with my Jamstix.... my ears tell me that they are 'O.K.' and 'not too bad' and just into the 'useable realm'

But when I throw up a BFD kit along to the same arrangement... as expected it sounds so much better than the Jamstix samples... but BFD is NOT the absolute only and ultimate drum sound...

With this Drumpack 2 that you are working on... you are getting closer to a really good drum-sound... in fact I think the snare is better than most of the BFD snares. It has more body and presence...It sounds a bit more like the ILIO INTERACTIVE DRUMKITS AND SNARES Ludwig kit... which is nice and 'noisy' and has a great sounding 'vibe' about it.

As great as BFD sounds... and it has that great 'room' sound... it is always 'that' room sound... sometimes you do want to use reverb on drums for certain tracks and certain style songs.... this drumpack 2 could be just what is needed!

Good work!

Thanks, Paspallum!

I'm currently editing the DP2 mappings and I must say I'm really excited about this Pak.

You can get very tight, driving funk grooves with the close-stereo option. The rod kit is so light and airy, it's a whole new avenue to explore for songs that need delicate but crisp drums. You can also do a lot of mix and match, such as taking a DP1 kit and just putting in the DP2 snare and kick and it works well and stays organic.

Another thing that worked well in my eyes was taking a DP1 or DP2 stick kit and using the rod hihat and ride with it, which are very light and crisp.

Can't wait to get his out the door! I think it really rounds out the sound palette for now. And yes, we put a lot of effort into the snare. I knew we needed a very tight and open snare with a good crack to complement the deeper tone of the DP1 snare.

Thanks for your encouragement!

Release is around the end of this month at an intro price of $14.99 (list $19). The intro price is likely to stay throughout December.
