|

Hi
Is there any reason why items like woodblock and tambourine etc are not mapped to NI Studio Drummer in your o/p mapping file?
Is it something that can easily be edited by myself?
Best regards,,
Peter |

I just looked at the mapping and Jamblock Hi & Lo and Tambourine are all mapped. Load the Session Drummer mapping and then in the kit window "Kit" dropdown menu, choose "Show Key Map". That will show you where every kit piece is directed.
Check out this thread for an explanation of how to modify the mapping if you need to:

Thanks for the reply, and the link.
I've had another look and as far as I can see the MIDI Out Template kit allocates everything to MIDI OUTPUT ONLY with the exception of a range of percussion instruments;
Jam B. Hi #79 G6 Jam Block Hi - JS3
Jam B. Lo #81 A6 Jam Block Lo - JS3
Chimes #80 G#6 Chimes - JS3
Cowbell #47 B3 Cowbell - JS3
Tambourine #83 B6 Tambourine - JS3
Drumsticks #42 F#3 Drumsticks - JS3
Egg Shaker #75 D#6 Egg Shaker - JS3
Shaker #76 E6 Shaker - JS3
These MIDI note numbers are completely at odds with the SD mapping, and the sounds themselves appear to be allocated to the JS instruments. Indeed when I play the tambourine, the sound is routed through the JS mixer, as far as I can ascertain, it doesn't get sent to Studio Drummer.
Just wondered if there was a reason?
Thanks,
Pete |

It's just a template, you can edit the routing any way you'd like. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

If you edit any of our mappings, I recommend you either keep backups of your edits or edit copies of our files under a different file name. That way your changes will not get overwritten if you ever do a installation repair of JS4. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks Ralph
Yes, I will take care.
Thanks for the help, I am really liking the flexibility of your software.

Hi
Sorted on most things regarding mapping for the time being but just one more question on this.
In Reaper, I have two tracks.
Track 1: fx is Jamstix, with a send to ...
Track 2: fx is Studio Drummer (kontakt)
This lets me see both fx windows side by side.
Using the MIDI out template kit in Jamstix, when I click on a kit piece (or hover over the piece in the bar menu) I can immediately see and hear the corresponding kit piece and articulation mapping in Studio Drummer (If 'select by MIDI' is enabled). It is clear, visually and audibly, and really helps to confirm mappings.
If I load a different kit into Jamstix (eg Country), and do the same thing, the mapping doesn't transfer through to Studio Drummer when I click a kit piece, even if MIDI ONLY is enabled.
I'm OK using the MIDI out template kit, but just wondered if there was an easy way to switch on the same capabilities for all kits?
Regards

| All you should have to do is select and load the Output mapping from the Kit Output map dropdown for the newly loaded kit, unless I misunderstood your question. |

Hi,
No, that doesn't have the same effect.
If I load a standard kit, eg Country, then load the Studio Drummer output map and set it to MIDI only, and then play a previously built song, all is well. The mapping works (although with percussion still going through the JS4 engine due to UseVSTi=0 setting in the .j2k file I think).
When I stop playback and just mouse click on individual kit pieces, the MIDI data doesn't appear to get sent to Studio drummer and the green MIDI indicator next to the output map name doesn't flash.
This is the same for all standard JS kits I have tried, except ....
However ..
When I load the MIDI out template kit, then load Studio Drummer output map, and disable OR enable MIDI out, each kit piece plays via Studio Drummer when I click on it and the kit piece + articulation shows up in Studio Drummer too (which is the really useful bit, for me). The green MIDI indicator does flash in this case.
So perhaps my question is .. What makes the green MIDI indicator next to the output mapping name flash ?
None of this is super critical as I can see how to get around it, I just think it would be good to click on a kit piece and have it show through to Studio Drummer if that's possible. It helps enormously to confirm and visualise mappings.

Which switch exactly are you referring to? You should NOT use "MIDI ONLY" in the mixer when using output mappings they way you described. It will work fine when using "Force MIDI Output Only" in the output mapping load dialog instead. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| I tried what I suggested with SD2 and it works as expected. I can load any JS kit and as long as I select the proper output map, I can click on any kit piece in JS and trigger SD2. |
