|
|
Have patience, I'm not a recording software expert by a long shot.
I had jamstix recomended. I downloaded the demo and installed, but I cannot find how to start it. I didn't plan to use with recording software at this time, just wanted to set up a few nice rhythms to jam with.
I find a jamstix.exe in the VST folders and when I open them a window pops up very briefly and I see jamstix.exe is running in task manager. But there is no GUI started.
Is there something I'm not doing right? If need be, I can install Reaper or Audacity. I am unsure how this all goes together.

Jamstix is a vst instrument that you have to load into a host program. It does not operate in standalone mode. Reaper works well or if you don't want to use a full blown DAW you can load it into VSTHost available here:

Thank you. I can access the program now, but there is a pretty good learning curve. I have played with it a bit, but sometimes some of the instruments aren't outputting sounds. It's as if there isn't a "snare" or "Hi Hat" for the program to play.
Not sure what the cause is. I will have to dig further, obviously.
So far the quality of sound is really nice and I like how much you can tweak the different settings. just have to get back to basics before digging into that stuff. |

There is a learning curve yes, but for the basics it's easy IMO. Check out these videos to get you going:

This forum is also one of the more friendly and helpful ones you'll come across so don't be afraid to ask questions. If someone knows the answer you'll likely get it. |

Hi a_zimuth, are you using JM4 with VSTHost? How did you solve this issue?

Hi filo,
I had to go and download VSTHost again just to check because I couldn't remember. I don't think I ever found a way to use the Transport controls but I'm sure I didn't look too hard either.
EDIT: Engine>Wave Recorder>Player Sync checked, then the Recorder Bar Transport controls will control Jamstix. |
