I'm using a Launchpad MKII with Ableton Live to trigger different Jamstix song parts while in Live session mode. I've been able to set it up with liveloops but can only seem to get the parts to trigger by composing a midi clip with a single note that then triggers the song part. The time code sync for Jamstix sometimes gets out of sync because it resets to the song part on each repeat while the Live time code continues counting. Periodically, it goes way negative and then doesn't play anything.

While this works somewhat, it doesn't seem efficient. Plus, when I recompose the song, the trigger notes I configured for each song part are reset to default.
Is there a better way to do this? I can't seem to have the Launchpad trigger the song parts directly unless I do it in User 1 (drum) mode.

Without the MIDI clip, does the yellow MIDI input icon light up in Jamstix when you press the button on the launchpad?

Running the song builder again overwrites everything. I'll see if we can come up with a solution in a future update like default trigger keys being adjustable.

When Live is in Session mode, it sees the Launchpad trigger as a control pad input so there is no midi being passed to Jamstix. If I turn off Launchpad as a control surface, then the trigger is a midi note but that pretty much kills the functionality of the Launchpad. I've also noticed that Live only passes the midi note trigger (when I have a note in the clip) when the track monitor is in "Auto" mode. If it's in "In" mode, it doesn't pass this midi note info on to the plugin.

The out of sync problem is when I stop Live with the transport and then hit stop again to reset to beginning. When transport Start is then pressed, the amount Live was reset is used to again reset Jamstix which brings up the negative measures and subsequently nothing is played even though the song parts are "playing".

Question: If the Liveloop Auto Advance input is "--", what mode is it started in? It almost seems like I'm still getting a toggle where sometimes it just advances through the song and sometimes it repeats until next trigger.

It seems like the way Launchpad is designed to work with Live kind of is a roadblock to using it with Jamstix the way I'm trying to use it. I just like having Jamstix song parts triggered as clips in session mode but I guess right now the hooks aren't available from Live to make this easy.

By default, advance is off so parts repeat until a different part is triggered. However, if you save a song with advance on, it will recall with advance on.

Correct. Jamstix can only react to MIDI events or DAW/plugin interface events. The communication between LaunchPad and Live is proprietary to those products.

The best way to make this work is probably using a traditional DAW as "host" and have Live "rewired" as a "device" (slave).

I'm using Waveform 10, added a rewire to use Live in slave mode and then had the Clips launched in session mode playing a midi note trigger route back out to an internal "software" midi channel that inputs to the Jamstix track in Waveform. Leaving liveloops on and setting the advance at end of measure option in Jamstix coupled with a 1/4 note launch quantization in Live works pretty well and I still can use Live session mode with Launchpad as the control surface. A bit of a kluge but so far best solution I've found.
