Hi all,

I've noticed that the drum brain will add fill hits for drums that are not in the loaded kit.

For example, I loaded the built-in Blues kit - which has Tom1, Tom3, Tom5, but the brain created fill hits for Tom4 - which of course did not make any sound - making the fill a little off. Similarly, the brain will try to hit crashes and chinas that are not in the loaded kit.

Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to tell the brain to check the kit before composing?

cheers, Damien.

I've never seen that before. The Brain should automatically reassign the hits to an available similar kit piece if a different kit is loaded. Do you have the Fill bars locked or anything out of the ordinary?

Seems to be reproducible for me as follows:
In the latest version of Reaper (5.983) open a new track and add Jamstix4
Go to the Kit tab and load the Blues kit
Note the kit pieces available/not-available:

Now start the Host and let the brain generate some fills
As you can see in the screenshot below the brain has generated hits for: Splash 3, China 4, Tom 4. None of these 3 drums exist in the Blues kit.

Your 2nd screenshot isn't working. I just tried what you outlined using Drum Solo song parts. While the Bar Editor does indicate hits generated for Toms 2 & 4, not included in the Blues kit, the hits are being played properly on an alternate kit piece as they should.

OK - then this might just be me having a different expectation of the application's behaviour.
I thought that the hits in the bar editor would only reference pieces available in the loaded kit. I was not expecting to see a China 3 symbol unless the loaded kit had a China 3 piece. I thought changing the loaded kit would trigger a recomposition - like giving a real drummer extra/less drums in their setup.
But it sounds like alternative kit pieces are played if the referenced piece is not in the loaded kit. I assume there are some rules for selecting the alternative - are these internal to the software or viewable/editable?

Finally, can I make a feature request that the Compose/Bar-Editor have an option to only use/show pieces from the currently loaded kit.

cheers, Damien.

Jamstix composes for a full kit (i.e. 'Rock - Everything' kit). It will not change notes based on what is actually available in the currently loaded kit. Instead it re-routes notes to missing kit pieces to other existing kit pieces as it plays just like a human drummer would. The advantage of that is that you can load a different kit and the performance will automatically adjust to the new kit without any recomposition. Even if you use a MIDI export and drive JS with that, it will still work and adjust to the currently loaded kit.
