|
|
On the first few days I had Jamstix (just a few weeks ago)- I couldn't seem to get the "Rudiments" thingy to work.
I just couldn't seem to get it to do anything, at first. But it's way simpler to use than I thought. And it's awesome for fills!
First: If you add a Rudiment module and nothing seems to happen, just hit "Recompose". Simple, right?
What confused me at first: Sometimes turning knobs changes things immediately, but sometimes you
need to click on "Recompose". It just depends on the context & what section you're in.
Next: On the top box that has left and right hits...something like "LRlrRL..." Right click the top box to get preset rudiments.
Really, you can just make up any combination of "L"s and "R"s, but many standard techniques are available by
right-clicking the top box. * Capital letters for hard hits, lower case for lighter hits. "L" & "R" are the only letters
(left and right limb hits)... that's it. * (Oh wait, there's also "F" for flams) Again, not complicated at all, once you know this. |

Note: The Rudiment module is on pages 37 & 38 of the manual, and it's explained pretty well.
Once I figured out to use the Recompose button (at least sometimes), and
started playing with the speed, start, and random etc. buttons, I got great results quick.
The Rayzoon slogan "Just Play With It" definitely applies here.
Have fun! |

| I really miss "Like" or "Thanks" button on this forum. So many useful and interesting information, thank you for that! |

The need for you to sometimes hit 'Recompose' is actually a bug. This will be fixed in the next update. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks Ralph!
To be honest, I didn't even think of it as a bug, but just as one detail about how Jamstix works.
However, even though I was stuck only temporarily, I wouldn't want anyone to get stuck, give up,
or miss out on this feature. It's a true gem.
And thanks for the fast responsiveness! |

Thanks for the info SP. I will have to work with this. I haven't tried it before.
But I did notice when I was working on getting some fills and rolls I wanted, sometimes it would work like you said, immediately. Other times nothing seemed to happened. And I figured out to hit the recompose buttom to get it to 'Generate' the new part. Good to know Ralph is gonna fix that. I didn't realize it was a bug either!! |

Oh yeah, one more tip!
When using Rudiments, I highly recommend initially turning off all other Fills...
(Trigger & Repeat Fills, and Tom Fills, etc). I had a section that I liked using Rudiments,
but it seemed to stay too busy no matter what. But it turned out that I had Repeat Fills
going on at the same time. So, no wonder!
Best to have no fills going on at all when using Rudiments. But this one is not a bug.
Adding Trigger or Repeat fills after the fact works well, so please don't change that! |
