is it possible to have linked parts and yet vary the fills/accents on each?

IT seems so, but I just don't want to mess this up.

It would be cool if there were an option - although some folks might want the same basic settings, they might want to vary up the fills

No, linked parts have the same accents and fills.
What you can do is wait until all the groove work is done and then un-link the parts and adjust the fills/accents as needed. Don't re-link them or they will be the same again.
