Hi. I'm an inexperienced user even though I've owned Jamstix for a long time. My question is: is there a way to assign a MIDI controller to increase and decrease the intensity of the drummer in real time? I'm not referring to the drummer following my playing (I understand how that works). I'm asking about assigning a MIDI controller I can move up and down to increase/decrease the busy-ness of the entire kit.

As an example, in many Blues songs, the tune will start very gently, with the drummer just setting them tempo. When the solos kick in and heat up, the intensity of all the players increases, and then often drops back to the beginning gentle beat. I get how to change the intensity of the individual drums, but I'd like to be able to increase/decrease the entire kit at will with a MIDI controller. If not, perhaps I need to create multiple drummers with different intensity levels, and switch between them during the song?

I hope I'm explaining it ok.

Thank you for any help.

Yes, you can assign a midi controller to the Song Power which will do what you want I believe. Right click the "Power" indicator below the Jamstix logo. See pages 41 & 42 of the manual.

Thank you, but that just controls the velocity/volume, not the "business" of the drummer.

Couple of things you can try:

1. Use 'Charlie' or extract from him the 'Simplifier' element and right-click on the element to map it to a MIDI controller.

2. Use the 'Song Power' as suggested but set 'Min Power' next to the knob to 70% or so to avoid the drums getting too quiet. Now use song power to reduce rhythm complexity (turn off 'Auto Snare' if you don't want cross-sticking.

Simplifier element might be handy to have as a DAW automation parameter as it would be handy to have set up in Quick Controls in Cubase or general automation.
