New JS user here. So far I'm just playing around to hear the different sounds available (I bought the JS 4 Studio version). I've been importing midi drum tracks from my Rush guitar tabs to hear how JS handles Neil Peart's drums.

I see you can choose from kits that certain drummers use, but Neil's is not in the list. That being the case, which kit should I use to best mimic Neil's? So far I've been using the Rock - Big Kit, but I didn't know if there was a better choice.

Thanks.

From which era? Just kidding, there isn't a specific Neil kit as you have noticed so you'll just have to build one. I'd suggest listening to some tracks representing the period you're shooting for while previewing various JS kit pieces. In combination with the new mixer, you should be able to get in the ballpark that way.

I don't have an ear from drums to be able to pick out specific pieces... or I should say I can't differentiate different models of the same piece. All I know is that Neil has a big kit, and I want to be able to reproduce his big drum rolls/fills.

I guess I can just Google for info about his kit. I'm sure someone has a detailed breakdown of just what he's used over the years.

Several years ago Sonic Reality sampled his kit. It's available for Kontakt, SampleTank or BFD
