Click the thumbnail to view.

I don't know if others were aware of this before me but I just accidentally discovered this. Midi clips can be dragged directly into the Brain window to be loaded into the Groove Importer. After setting up a Toolbar for my midi folder I can load clips very quickly. You don't even have to drop it on the Groove Importer as I did here. Just drop the clip anywhere in the Brain window.

EDIT: Ralph has improved this even further in 4.2.2 Beta 2. Now midi can be dragged directly into the Groove Brain window and a Groove Importer will be automatically added if there isn't one there already.

This is an awesome feature.

I just tried it. I exported a 1-Bar BFD3 Midi groove and was able to drag it into Jamstix 4.

BFD3 has a ton of MIDI grooves some of which are cool fills.

It would be even more awesome if we could select Fill (or Accent) on the Brain and drag into that section as well.

I tried it but the MIDI went into the Groove.

Should I ping Ralph to see if this is doable. Or maybe it is and I am not doing something correctly?

Is there a way to add the MIDI Groove element to the Fill page?

I am gonna go look now.

Let me see what we can do about that.

The way I discovered it was really bizarre. The battery in my cordless mouse was dying and for some reason things that get clicked "stick" to the mouse cursor when the mouse is moved afterwards. A 2nd click will "release" the stuck item and the cursor just happened to be in the Brain window at the time. Cheap batteries FTW.

Beta 3 is now out which lets you drop MIDI files onto the bar editor.

the first time.

Then I made a change to the S/T Emph on the Fill page. I then dragged the same MIDI file and dropped it. This time it was put on the Groove page like before.

I'm not seeing that here Brian and Ralph. I'll keep testing tonight.

however i seem to be able to make it work consistently depending on exactly where I drop the MIDI files.

this is what I am seeing.

these first steps may or may not matter.

1. I choose a kit (Rock-Dry)
2. I configure the Input and Output mapping for BFD3 (i suspect i only need the output mapping but i just do it this way out of habit)
3. I select the Groove on the Main Menu

These steps seems to make a difference.

4. I drag the MIDI file that I want to use for the Groove onto the Brain element area (the black area above the editor where the elements are located.) This works and all Bars use this Groove.

Now this is where the behavior seems to differ.

5. I select Fill and drag MIDI file with the fill onto the Brian element area.

6. I had 2 measures of fills so I drag a 3rd MIDI file with the fill onto the Brian element area on the next bar.

7. All is well up to this point.

8. I tweak a fill Brian element and my fill changes.

9. I then drag the fill MIDI file and drop it onto the Brian element area in the Fill page like before but this MIDI file goes to the Groove.

So at this point, the fill in the dropped MIDI file is now the Groove and the original fill that changed when I tweaked the Fill Brain element just after dropping the MIDI file does not change.

Now if instead of dropping the Fill MIDI onto the Brian element area I drop it on the top left most cell in the editor, then this works. The fill is overwritten with what is in my MIDI fill file(s).

So it seems that it depends on where I drop the MIDI file.

I can get back to where I was after dropping the 3rd MIDI file and prior to making Fill Brian changes but I have to drop the Groove MIDI file onto the Brain element of the Groove editor. Dropping it onto the top left most cell only puts the MIDI in that bar. That is probably WAD Smile (Working As Designed)

Hope this make sense and is not too confusing.

Brian
