Hi Everyone,

I want to create a drum track similar to what is in this short clip.

I know the clip is short but what style (playing and sound) is this? Hip hop? EDM?

https://soundcloud.com/brian-blevins/short-clip

It sounds like a drum kit with a low pass EQ on it. Or maybe the kit pieces sound like that. Either way I want to create something similar but not really where to start. Like what Jamstix kit if any would be best for this style? Or what JS Drummer and style would be the best place to start?

Thanks
Brian

Hi Brian,

If you have the XL Pak there are a lot of Electronic kits in there. Off the top of my head I would probably try the eLACKtronic kit. I would load Machine as the drummer. Add the Snare, Hi-Hat & Kick grid from the Groove Brain Add menu and the just hand edit the beat in the grids. That should get you pretty close I think. That sounds like an old Linn drum machine sample to my ears on the clip you posted. As far as Style goes in the clip I would classify it as Smooth R&B but I'm an old geezer too so who knows lol.

A_Zimuth

I am about 90% there with your help.

The kick is perfect. I have to find the snare sound and I think I am there.

I have never really played with the Grid. It is a bit confusing but I think I am getting the hang of it.

Brian

Hey Brian,

Sorry for the slow reply, just got back into town. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
