So, after getting involved with a band (well forming a band) this past year and a half, we put together a demo or two, and I've written some new material as well.
This song is an old one that I wrote way back in 2007. We put together a demo track in hopes of attracting a drummer (and we did). Drums are done with Jamstix 3, using Carmine's AI, and a combination of rock and funk styles for the various segments of the song.
I actually rendered the WAV file of just the drum track to load into my keyboard for playback at rehearsals before we recruited a drummer.
Enjoy!

| Pretty rough mix, but I know it's only a demo. I like it though. I really like the singer's voice. She should definitely be more prominent in the mix. Congrats on getting the band together also. |

Yeah, I agree. It wasn't too long after we brought the singer on board, so our timing was still a bit rough at that point. Also, like our other couple of demos, we recorded separately on our own, and sent them to the bass player (which is the one of us who's a career musician, and also involved on the recording/production end of things). He handled the mixdown, and tinkered with a little too much overkill on some things, I think. The organ raw wasn't nearly as fuzz-tastic when I sent it, for example. But this was probably done at his home where the room isn't ideal for mixing.
Meanwhile, here's a mock-up (also using Jamstix 3) of another song of mine. Not exactly a demo, since it's all done in the box, and I'm a keyboardist. Also, I'm not nearly as good a vocalist as our singer. (which is why I'm singing backup on a few songs, hah!). This one was all done in the box.

| I like that, some very cool harmonic things happening and interesting time sig changes. Don't be too critical of your voice either, I've certainly seen and played with others who were 100X worse, believe me. |

Thanks!
I don't think I'm a horrible singer, either. I just know I'm not as good as our lead, haha! Also, it's difficult for me to play keys and sing at the same time on some things, but I'm slowly improving. It's certainly not something I was ever taught, so it's a challenge. Glad you like the song.
I take a lot of inspiration from groups like QotSA, Muse, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Queen, and many more, including various game music composers, e.g. Matoi Sakuraba. I also have some background in classical music.
Now I just need to remind myself to upgrade to Jamstix 4 later this year. |
