PostPosted: Sun Apr 22, 2018 8:15 pm    Post subject: Keymaps Question Reply with quote

I'm working on keymaps for EZDrummer 2 and some of its EZXs, and am editing the keymaps in a text editor. My question is about articulations that Jamstix expects to see, that sometimes aren't available, such as shank articulations on the hats, etc.

Here's an example of the HH articulations:
Code:
; Hihat Foot Close
9=44

; Hihat Shank 0%
92=

If there isn't a matching articualtion in EZD, should I delete the entire reference, or leave the key number blank, as in the second example? Maybe a third option I haven't thought of?

TIA for any help offered.

I would map it to a similar closed hat sample (0% in this case) and then try to remember to adjust Hihat Shank to "none" in the JS drummer I'm using if available.

For an output map, I would delete the whole reference so that JS sets it to 'None'. It will automatically route events to the next best sound (i.e. closed hats).

For an input map, I'd set it to closed hats as Azimuth suggested.

Okay, I'm confused. I tried starting a new kit, and only added a hi-hat. I then saved a keymap, and edited it to remove the references to all articulations except closed and open. I then loaded the keymap, and selected "show keymap", and this is what it says:
Code:
DRUMS: NOT LOADED
PERC: NOT LOADED

Hihat Foot Splash   #35   B0   MIDI OUTPUT ONLY
Hihat Closed      #42   F#1   MIDI OUTPUT ONLY
Hihat 25%      #86   D5   MIDI OUTPUT ONLY
Hihat 50%      #56   G#2   MIDI OUTPUT ONLY
Hihat 75%      #87   D#5   MIDI OUTPUT ONLY
Hihat Open      #46   Bb1   MIDI OUTPUT ONLY
Hihat Foot Close   #44   G#1   MIDI OUTPUT ONLY
Hihat Shank 0%      #22   Bb-1   MIDI OUTPUT ONLY
Hihat Shank 50%      #24   C0   MIDI OUTPUT ONLY
Hihat Shank Open   #26   D0   MIDI OUTPUT ONLY

Seems like I'm doing something wrong. Any ideas?

I worked it out. If you put a zero for the key number, it ignores the articulation.

I'm going to work up some maps for EZDrummer 2 and some of the EZX's, in case anyone's interested.

Yes - I am interested. I've been using JS for ages, and this year bought EZDrummer 2 in order to expand the sound possibilities, but, I'm finding mapping is a bit of a headache.

Did you manage to produce some maps?

Okay, here's what I've got:

Big Rock Drums
Indie Folk
Made of Metal
Progressive
Seventies Rock
The Classic
EZD2 Modern
EZD2 Vintage

As far as I know, these are correct. Here's the Dropbox link, but it won't be there forever. Hope this is useful!

Many thanks for sharing them. I tried them just to see, but, they don't seem to be compatible with JS4.
