I would like to learn how to import MIDI data. The trouble I am having is in trying to work out some slightly swung Reggae. The pattern playing back was created outside of Jamstix, and had some slight swing. I cleared the song, and all patterns. The swing slider for the part I have imported is off. Yet I maybe still hear the slight swing [ which is what I want Smile ] But it is hard to say for sure. And I've played with the Swing Slider, which makes it even harder to figure out what Jamstix 4 is doing.

1) I don't see how I can edit the degree of "Swungness" in the bar editor - only with the Swing Slider on the left in the Song section of the GUI.

2) I then create a greatly swung version of the file. When I import it there is definitely no swing. I can restore the swing with the Swing Slider obviously. So how does Jamstix "view" a reggae, breakbeat, funk or hip hop beat that inherently has a slight amount swing? Is it by combining the swing slider and the imported MIDI? Or is there a way to permanently associate a style with a certain starting point of swungness via either performed and visible in the bar editor, or by saving the style somehow so that it reflects the intent?

In the bar editor I see the Shuffle options (in the right click context menu for the notes), that allow me to shuffle specific notes without setting the whole bar into "shuffle mode". Am I to understand that the whole bar is in shuffle mode depending on whether the Swing Slider in the Song section is at zero, or above zero? Or is there some other way for the "Auto" shuffling to work? And what degree of shuffle is there if it is "Forced"? I assume it could not be based on the slider because the slider, to me, already forces the Shuffle feel.

Or is "Shuffle" always implying a full Shuffle in this menu?

Can you understand why I'm confused, or should I rephrase?

Do you have "Quantize Midi Import" enabled in Options?
