(Off-topic: I'm really enjoying J4. I can go months without recording so I'm not a power user, but so far, my workflow feels more intuitive and, to my ear, the new sounds or the default ways that they are balanced are a big improvement. And I had no real complaints with J3.)
But tell me, do linked parts always have to be 100% identical? In particular, I'd like my certainly-not-a-drum-machine drummer to not play exactly the same fills on every chorus, say, especially if the following part (next verse or bridge or repeated chorus) is different. I've tried a few things (editing a "downstream" - i.e. not the first - chorus, locking bars, unlinking to edit then relinking) but any changes are always propagated to all the choruses.
In previous versions, I could change repeated parts if I avoided "core bars". Is that not a thing any more?
My only thought is to defer working on the fills until very late in the recording process, then unlinking the parts (permanently) to make my edits. Is there a better way? That seems pretty inelegant.
Thanks! |
