Ralph:
Could you explain as to what's happening with the latest beta with midi import? I can't import a file that even sounds remotely like a drum pattern. All I hear is a bass drum. If I import 4 measures of a single track midi file. I get 5 new rhythms showing up in the arrangement window. One say named Midi File. The other four say Midi File1, Midi File 2, Midi File 3, Midi File 4. Help.

All that has changed in the beta is the naming. When Jamstix imports a multi-bar MIDI file it will place each bar in its own rhythm slot. The import expects things in GM layout and does not cover every aspect of the MID file since it must translate things into rhythm tab logic versus just playing back events. If you send me the MID file to support @ rayzoon.com, I'll take a look at it and see why it's only seeing the kick drum. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks Ralph. I'll send that off right away. The only thing I know, is the file import worked this morning( got up early with the dogs) prior to downloading and applying the beta and then was totally changed afterward on files that had imported okay before.

Hi Dave, got your file and checked it out. The problem is that the data is not quantized. Jamstix currently looks for specific ticks to match them with 'brain' settings. Try quantizing the file to 16th notes and then import and it will work fine.
We'll see if we can improve the quantizer stage of the import to fix this. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks again Ralph for the great support. It appears that Jamstix is a different program to different users. As I said in my email, I would love to be able to mix and match fixed measures, some imported, that don't change at all, with free measures, measures that I load a rhythm into and let jamstix do its thing on. You're doing a great job and the program is awesome.

Next beta will have an improved quantizer stage in the MIDI import.
I tried it on your test file and it worked. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
