Hi All
Quick query. I guess applies to JS 3.6 but also JS 4 (and indeed is there anything in JS 4 which would make the work flow better).
Basically, working on a few long projects - epic kinds of tracks with varying styles, time sig and ambience. 10-15 mins some of them. I am trying to construct in a reasonably linear workflow, but already I am going back and inserting bars, adding things etc. There are also times where no drums / percussion plays.
I guess the default thing to do is to use blank bars (silence). I am hoping that inserting new instances of silence during song composition is easier?
Any other way of working?

| I would insert silent parts as you said and adjust the length in the songsheet to what you need if it is an unusual # of bars. That way JS can recompose, if needed, around what you desire. Don't forget to ensure that your time sig changes in JS still align in your DAW afterwards also. |

Thanks - yep, seems the way then. Just got JS4 working really well with Pro Tools and SSD4. I really like the new drums visuals, if nothing else, I oriented them to meet the same looks as the SSD4 Blackbird kit. So far so good, looking using it . |

One last thing if I may...
I can copy and paste parts no problem. Certainly with JS4 beta (but I also think JS3.6), what I cannot seem to get to work is to insert a new part of a specific type (e.g. verse). That is not to much of a problem if my song already has a verse - as I can copy and paste. But suppose I want to insert a solo in the middle of a number of parts I cannot seem to get that to work. I can right click any part and select insert (New Part). Then asks for name of part. However, that does not define what TYPE of part I am after (e.g. solo). So I am wondering how to do this?
cheers

Hi Mark,
You can't insert a specific part type. In the user manual, check out Appendix A on page 65-66. It briefly explains the characteristics of the various Song Builder part types. So you can name your newly created part manually and then emulate the characteristics of the desired part type. HTH
EDIT: As of Beta 24 this no longer applies. You can create a specific part type now.

Thanks for that, will go and check That said, perhaps a new feature in the future. Would not inserting a standard part be useful? For the time being I will probably make a song, but at the end bung in all part types - copy and paste what I want and when, then delete the end parts I do not need once song is complete. That seems quickest work around at the moment. |
