It's been a few months since I've been active on the forum, but I've been steadily plugging away with Jamstix to meet the needs of my band's next recording project. I have the "studio" version of Jamstix. A couple of quick questions for the experts around here:

1. What bit depth/sample rate are the Jamstix kits recorded at? I suppose this is inconsequential, as long as everything sounds great (which it does), but I'm just curious.

2. Is there a chart that contains vital information for each kit: namely the degrees of hi-hat openness offered with each kit/piece? Currently, I'm using a hi-hat that has 4 degrees (closed, half closed, half open, open).

Thanks in advance for this information. I look forward to sharing samples of my band's new recordings using Jamstix as they become available!

-Mark

Hi Mark,

1) 16 bit/44.1Khz

2) All of the kits are the same regarding HH openess: 0%,25%,50%,75%&100%. The amount of HH "shank" can also be varied which further varies the sounds available.

Thanks for the reply, a_zimuth! I listened to the hi-hat part on the track that I've been working on, and find that there are distinct 0% and 100% sounds, and what I would consider a half-open sound. However, there definitely aren't 5 iterations (0%,25%,50%,75%&100%). I'm currently starting with the 14" JS closed hi-hat sound.

I'm assuming that to get all of the sounds, I need to set the patch to one of the 75 piece hats (such as HiHat 75pct-14" JS3)? Unfortunately, when I do that, all I am getting is an open sound. When I change hi-hat open/closed in the song editor, it makes no difference. Also, when I change the reverse open/closed in the settings, it makes no difference. I am confused as to why the hats aren't behaving properly, even when I manually enter in the data.

Any ideas on how to achieve 0%,25%,50%,75%&100% options are appreciated. I'm getting a FANTASTIC mixed drum sound, but just need the hi-hat nuance to get closer to where I need to be. Thanks in advance for your help!

-Mark

Hi Mark,
All of the variations are already assigned to different midi notes in the JS3 kits.
The Kit window dropdown menu has a "Show Key Map" which will shows the articulation assignments for the loaded kit. There are definitely 5 different articulations for each kit. You can listen to them in the Kit Editor Articulation dropdown located here:

Let me know if I can help further or if I've misunderstood what you are looking for.
