|
|
Hi all,
Can you advise me please on using Addictive Drums 2 with Jamstix 3 please? By that I mean taking the midi drum output of JS and using it to trigger the kits found in AD2.
Initially I've taken a midi loop I like from BFD Eco and imported that into JS. I then use that midi file as the pattern for an entire song, with JS adding fills, etc. I load a JS kit while I do this and the JS kit plays the imported loop, sounding just like the original BFD Eco loop but with the JS kit sounds.
I then export the finished JS song as a midi file and bring that into an AD2 track in my DAW. The midi file does trigger whatever kit I've selected in AD2, but the beats do not sound quite the same as before, as if some elements were not there, or some other bits of kits were sounding rather than the correct ones.
I get the same result when I directly route midi playing out from JS into AD2 'live' in my DAW (Ableton Live 9).
Maybe this is a mapping issue? Is anyone here using Addictive Drums 2 successfully with JS?
Can someone advise me on this please? I hope I have been clear in the explaination!
Many thanks,
Maurice. |

Hi all,
Since I have no had any replies yet, perhaps my question was not put very well!
So, instead, can I ask: does anyone here successfully use JS to drive Addictive Drums 2? |

Yes.
You need to load the AD2 kit in JS, rather than a JS kit. AD is first on the list.
And make sure AD vsti is loaded after JS vsti in your chain. Works fine here in Reaper. |

Many thanks for your reply Kevin, I appreciate it.
I will try your suggestion in using the AD kit and place AD2 after Jamstix. I haven't tried that combination yet, so I'll give it a go and report back.
I am using JS with Ableton Live 9, but I also have Reaper, so I'll try it on both.
It's good to hear that JS is driving AD2 okay for you: I just laid down £80 to get AD2, so I'm determined to get JS working with it.
Thanks again. |

I just noticed the detail here: in my version of JS there is only an option to add an Addictive Drums kit, not an 'AD2' on.
Perhaps I need to update from Jamstix 3.5 to 3.6?
Anyway, many thanks. |

| That's the correct kit, there is only one AD kit (AD Jamstix). |

Yes, sorry about the name detail.
I'm using 3.6, but it also worked on 3.5.
I like the AD sounds, but I also like the JS sounds. The reason I quit using JS to drive AD is that there is not a 1:1 mapping of hits. What I mean is, JS has more articulations than AD has. So you get a more realistic track by using the JS kits than by using the AD kits, IMO.
What I sometimes play with is using the AD midi patterns as a starting point for JS. I don't do that often enough to give a tutorial, but it's not terribly difficult IIRC. |

Thanks again for your replies. After a bit of fiddling about I have got Jamstix driving AD2, so I appreciate your help.
Yes, I think I see what you mean about there not being a '1:1' mapping of hits, I get a feeling there's an occasional micro-gap in the performance that makes me feel something was supposed to sound but didn't do it quite right.
But I am still able to use JS to jazz up AD2's static loops, and take the best of what it generates and put into a midi file for a bit of editing by hand.
Yes, I also now take AD2 midi as a starting point for JS grooves, now I am slowly getting my head around it.
Best wishes. |

Hello:
How do you take the AD2 midi loops? The only way I know is: to open AD2 within de DAW, to bring the loop into a track and then make a mixdown, soloing the track. Then the midi file is loaded into JS. Or is there maybe a more straightforward way?
Thank you very much,
