|
|
I am a drummer with an Alesis DM8 Pro e-kit, and just bought Jamstix to use as a drum brain, edit grooves created using my kit, and change the style/add character to hi-hat parts in particular. I think the AI has a lot of potential to breathe more subtle life into things.
Now that everything is installed and working with my e-kit, I am seeing that Jamstix appears to be dependent on 1 bar grooves for midi importing. I am interested in importing entire verses, entire choruses, etc. Is there a way to increase the number of bars for the imported midi material?
I have been watching tutorials and learning a lot, but am still a bit stuck on how I will overcome this part of the workflow that I planned to use Jamstix for. Thanks in advance for your help!

I recommend this method:
For each part, i.e. 'Verse', create a part in the Jamstix song sheet with the proper length and repetition. Select the 'Import' style and then import the desired MIDI file in the 'Groove' brain element. It will import from the MID file as many bars as needed to fill the specified part length. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Thanks, Ralph! I'll try that tonight and report back with my findings. |

Update: I tried Ralph's method last night, and it worked just fine once I got to know Jamstix a little better. At this stage in the game, it looks like the next hurdle is seeing if there is a way to use a different midi file for each verse (V1, V2, etc.). I suspect there might not be a way to do this, based on the way that Jamstix uses "core" grooves. If that's the case, I can just use new section names to accommodate the midi variations, provided that I don't run out of sections.
Potential revision note for version 4: When I tried to import my midi groove into an intro section, it wouldn't work. I suspect this is a bug in version 3. When I changed the section from "intro" to "verse" it worked without a problem.
I realize that I am probably using Jamstix in ways other than it was originally intended, but am confident that it will result in a great final product for me!

Just import a different MID file in each verse part.

That is by design as Intros are handled by Jamstix AI. Your solution to use a normal part is the correct one. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
