|
|
JS 3.6 beta 23 x32 running in Ableton Live 8.2.2. Win 7 x64 Home Prem.
Can anyone walk me through how to use this feature? It's not working for me - probably user error but I've checked the forum, the manual, and I'm stumped.
It may be that I'm doing something wrong, but I can't for the life of me get a cymbal wash, snare roll, or any of the other options at top of bar editor to work.
If I start w/ a blank bar (no sounds on any of the limbs), right-click on any of the top beat markers doesn't do anything.
If I insert a sound (snare, for instance) on any of the beats, right click still does nothing, but LEFT click brings up menu to insert washes, rolls, etc.
Selecting snare roll deletes the sounds I inserted in the bar but nothing else - no roll inserted.
If, instead of snare roll I select cymbal wash, I briefly see the following in the white info text at the lower left of the JS window:
"UI ERROR TIMER PROC MENU"
Again, nothing happens.
Any ideas?

| Hi, it works here for me. Double click and insert a hit where you want the roll, wash or crescendo to END and then left click the beat number for the beginning and choose which you want inserted. |

Hey awesome, a_azimuth - thanks for that.
Just tried it and got the snare rolls working, so that's something.
Still no luck with cymbal wash, though. Same process, generally, or are there different steps to set that up?
Sorry for lame questions - I've read the manual but can't seem to figure this out... |

| Hi, your questions aren't lame at all, it is pretty confusing how this works. The same procedure should work for all 3 items. Are you saying that when you try to do the same procedure for the cymbal wash or tom crescendo nothing is added in the bar editor? I have no idea how the snare rolls can work but not the cymbal wash and crescendo. Hopefully Ralph can shed some light here. |

All works fine here in Beta 26 except for the velocity issue azimuth pointed out in the Beta thread.
Apologies for how this works, it was a bit of an 'afterthought'. We will make this function less 'kludgy' in Jamstix 4. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks guys, for the quick responses.
It seems like I've got this working, sort of. Snare roll and snare/tom crescendo work as expected, once I got the hang of it from a_zimuth.
The cymbal wash is a bit more confusing, but it does seem to work now. Is it normal for the sound to change to Crash 4 once the wash is inserted?
One other question re. the snare/tom crescendo: Default appears to be hits spaced on the eight notes. Is there any way to space the hits differently? For example, in a slow-tempo 4/4 bar, can you have the hits spaced on the sixteenths? If not, is there an easy way to assign a gradual, steady increase in velocity to a series of manually placed hits (i.e., manually build a crescendo).
Finally - Ralph: an observation. When using mouse wheel to vary velocity of a hit in bar view, the velocity readout in the lower left of the JS window is not updated until I move the mouse pointer away from the hit and then back over it. The velocity is changed, but can't see impact of mouse wheel in real time. Graphic red velocity line next to hit does move in real time, but not V number in display. A minor issue, but maybe could be tweaked?
Awesome software and awesome support from forum. Thanks! |

There is no function for that but we'll look into that

We'll fix that in the next Beta. Thanks! _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks, Ralph, for the quick reply. Continue to be impressed with the speedy responses to user questions on this forum!

Anything on this? I was confused about this occurrence, since the kit I'm working with doesn't even have a "Crash 4" assigned. Thats' a little wierd?
It's no biggie, I guess, as I can reassign the sounds after the wash is placed, or reassign in the brain controls.
Also: how about this?

Thanks!
I'm looking into the Cymbal 4 issue.
Hit spacing is being looked at for JS4. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Too funny, that's what I've always done and never even thought about it always defaulting to cymbal 4. Good catch. |

Hi Folks - embarking soon on a cymbal wash, and just wanted to check in to see whether there are any updates to this thread in JS3.
Thanks! _________________ Alexis
