I tried to right click on it, but the dialog for assigning an automation controller didn't pop up ... is there a way to do that?
If not, may I submit this feature request please for JS 4?

For people coming down the pike in the future with the same question: To automate it - before right clicking, the arrow has to be exactly on the little white vertical slider. Right clicking in any other part of the "simplifier" GUI won't open up the automation dialog.
