I'm working on a blues song that has the classic technique where the band plays a short riff, and then drops out while the singer shouts out something.

In case that wasn't a good explanation, here is an example of some simple guitar tablature (in 12/8 time). Picture the whole band playing during the guitar riff, and then being silent for the rest of the measure while the singer yells out something soulful:

Code:
|------------|------------|------------|------------|
|------------|------------|------------|------------|
|------------|------------|------------|------------|
|------------|------------|------------|------------|
|---------3-3|5--------3-3|5--------3-3|5-----------|
|--------5-5-|--------5-5-|--------5-5-|------------| etc.
               Vocals       Vocals       Vocals

Band:   Da-na-na-na-da
Singer: Feelin' tired
Band:   Da-na-na-na-da
Singer: Feelin' sad
Band:   Da-na-na-na-da
Singer: This is the worst day
Band:   Da-na-na-na-da
Singer: I've ever had

etc.

Since the band riff crosses measure boundaries, I'm not sure the best way to tell Jamstix to play the final few beats of each measure plus the downbeat of the next measure, and then stop until it's time to repeat that all over again.

Is there a setting in the brain to do this? Or do I need to manually edit the hits for those bars? Since I'm not a drummer, I suck at achieving what I want by manually editing hits, so I hope there a setting in the brain for this. If not, this looks like an opportunity to improve my ability to edit hits and make it sound realistic.

I am new to Jamstix and still finding my way around, but there is a "Forced Silence" option on the menu you get when you left click a tick number - you may get what you want through the judicious use of this.
