I'm using Normal Jam, Silent style with an extracted Freestyle 8th HH groove and closed HH variations set to None in the Kit setting. When I loop a bar and click Compose, I'm getting way too much HH closed variation. Player is Silent, and I don't have any power variations active that I know of. About half the hits sound like 1/4 open, and a lot of the hits are flamming. MIDI out from Jamstix is off, and MIDI input on the Cubase Jamstix track is set to "not connected." I've also tried the Rock 8th style, same problem. I've also noticed when the power control is at 12 o'clock, more 1/4 open hats are produced than when the control is at 9 or 3 o'clock. I like some variation, but this is just off the map! Also, changing the kit levels for each articulation doesn't seem to help, for example, the 1/4 open and shank levels have no effect. I've also tried lowering the dynamics and tried various Volume Adjust settings.

Is there a HH style setting with a consistent HH closed behavior and then dial in the variation as needed?

Could you send me a brief MP3 of what it sounds like?

I just noticed what sounds like the same thing this weekend. All closed hats, *lots* of variation, just as described by the OP.

Any fixes suggested since the OP was made?

Thanks!

Try setting the power variations for the Hihat in the brain to zero.

Thanks! Will try, but I hope I don't lose the variation on velocities of the closed hats (I enjoy those), it's just their degree of openness that I'd like to make more consistent.
