HI
I think I read somewhere on this Forum that the new BFD v1.5 update is more efficient on RAM and CPU?

I e-mailed BFD and they sent me this (with no mention of icreased efficiency):

<<<<<The main things new in 1.5:-
-- Virtual "kit piece damping".. you can shorten or tighten individual hits
-- Twice as many kit pieces per instance (18 instead of 9)
-- "Ultra" mode with 34 outputs
-- more flexible bleed control
-- more powerful keymapping features>>>>

Does anyone out there know if teh efficiency is actually improved or not

You may have it confused with Superior 1.5, which features 16-bit conversion and TPC compression to dramatically reduce the memory footprint of DFHS and C&V.

Zauni is correct - the big improvement in RAM footprint is with the new TPC modes in DFHS 1.5. This reduction in RAM use is to some extent offset by a (modest) increase in CPU consumption.

I would expect BFD 1.5 would use the same amount or RAM as BFD 1.0.x to load the same instrument set (with the same settings for preload buffer etc).

There have been some improvements in CPU efficiency for the basic streaming engine I believe but the new damping filters and output matrix etc would have to use some additional CPU cycles.

Both of these programs have had major improvements in their 1.5 versions.

And the best news about DFHS and C&V 1.5 is - it works great in the real world.
When you're using both TPC and 16 bit you get a RAM reduction of 80% - pretty sensational if you ask me. CPU hit is minimal here.
That means you can even work with as little as 512 MB, though 1 GB of course would still be more comfortable.
It goes without saying that the bounced quality is not compromised in any way, we're only talking about real-time use here.
Highly recommended !
Cheers, Rhino
