In the Style: Toolbox: Standard Rock style, there is an option to choose the instrument for the Hihats (Hats, Ride, Bell).

This is incredibly useful.

That style has just a single control for Hihats. I'd like to incorporate separate controls for quarter, 8th and 16th notes into a style, and choose the instrument for each. Where can I find this?

I can't tell you exactly where to find those elements but, if you go to the "Song" display and select the drop down menu, you will see "List Brain Elements". That will list out all of the brain elements with a description of what they do and where they are found (i.e. which style or drummer).

Thanks. I know of that list. Unfortunately the descriptions of the elements are generic, and do not mention which might include options to select instruments.

The only HiHat element I have found that includes that option is the Groove: Hihat element in the Jamstix Classic style. This is the element that is incorporated in the Toolbox: Standard Rock style I mentioned, which does not include separate controls for different note divisions.

I'm beginning to fear that this option is a legacy feature from the previous previous generation of Jamstix and is not present in the Jamstix 3 styles.

If so, this would be a nice feature to bring back in Jamxstix 4.

A question for others who are using Jamstix for song composition. How are you controlling when the program uses hats versus rides? I'm sure there are different ways. What I am doing is adjusting the Power Hand: Min Power control, more to the left tends to produce rides. More to the right produces hihats. This is a workaround. I suppose another way would be to change the instrument associated with one of the hands, but that is all-or-nothing. There is always manual editing of notes, but that defeats the purpose of the program. Best of all would be a straightforward selectable option like the one in the Jamstix Classic style, but with more control over different note divisions.

Usually I'll just JS do it's thing and provided that I've chosen a style and drummer appropriate for what I'm looking for it works out for me. If I want more ride hits, I'll redirect the Hi Hat to the Ride, choose a "Bell" mode and adjust the Amount. I look at as if I'm working with a live drummer. I would never chart out every note to be played. I like surprises.
