Why is using JS always an exercise in frustration? Two bugs.

I have not used JS 3 in a while and wanted to use it to put life into some MIDI drum loops that fits my song. Of course I immediately hit multiple JS 3 bugs, making it hard to do what I want.

I loaded JS 3 then loaded the "Silent" player for the first 8 bars before the song actually starts. I removed the "HiHat" effector since I just want a simple fill at the start of the song.

Next I click the Fill tab to play with the intro fill. So this is where the issues start. First, it keeps playing a crash on the 3rd beat that doesn't appear in any of the Groove, Accent or Fill tabs. It is invisible yet still plays. I can't remove it.

Then somewhere along the line, while working in the Fill tab on the fill, it starts to endlessly and rapidly re-compose the fill over and over as the transport plays back. Only when I stop the transport does the re-composing stop. Start it again and it goes crazy endlessly re-composing the fill. I noticed one time that playing with some of the effector dials caused it to go into this mode. The only way to get out of this state is to exist and restart Sonar. Then while tweaking the fill, at some point it would start doing it again.

Maybe I have not used JS 3 enough recently to know whether these are actually features or not, but both of these issues seem like bugs to me.

This is all happening before I've even tried to import the drum loop into JS 3. As I said, why is it always an exercise in frustration when trying to use JS 3?

Are there workarounds for these two issues?

I have JS 3.6.0 running in Sonar X3e x64 on W8.1 Pro x64.

EDIT: OK it appears the crash is due to the "Start Crash" checkbox. That solves that issue for me, now if I can just get rid of the continuous re-composing.

I'm also running into other issues, but these are not serious enough to interfere with operation. Specifically there seems to be problems with editing text in textboxes etc. For instance, when I try to rename a part, I can't properly select a range of text. Also, when deleting a character at a time using backspace, it always deletes two characters at a time.

I don't remember these issues from the previous time I used JS 3, which was quite a while ago.

Are you using 'Silent' style as well as 'Silent' player?

Ralph,

Sorry for the belated response. Unfortunately I removed JS for that song and used another drum synth, so I can't check.

However I suspect you might be right that I could have been using both Silent style and Silent player. Is this an invalid combination?

No, that would be the correct way.

I am having these problems as well ... hoped there would be a fix in the new JS version I just downloaded this weekend ...

Is there a change I can make in settings?
