I'm trying to install my old copy of JS1 on a new computer so I can revisit some old tracks and update them. However when i enter the serial code etc i get a message saying 'unable to write licence to registry'
can anyone help?

Using win7 home premium with Ableton Live

Run the host via right-click->Run As Admin.
