I am toying with the idea of picking up an electronic kit to use with JS. Let's assume I don't have $5k to drop on the latest and greatest Roland kit, but would try for something used and as low cost as possible. I'm assuming since I could use JS's kits with it, I don't have to worry so much about loving whatever sound banks it includes.

Are there any features in particular I should make sure it has (e.g. multiple zones on each pad, Roland TD extensions, etc.) to work as well as possible with JS and ensure a good experience? Anything I should avoid (specific brands or models, certain pad construction materials, etc.)? Not looking for anyone to bash a particular manufacturer, just want to know if there are certain brands that wouldn't jive well with the JS drum module or if the external midi response isn't so great.

I would not be planning to play these out. Just for practice and recording, and don't want to break the bank.

Any advice/experiences to share? Thoughts? I'm sure that the more you spend, the better the kit, just like anything else. But just looking for some ideas from others who have experience here on what are the "must have" things as opposed to the nice-to-haves.
