I've had a couple of crashes while playing around in Jamstix. It was late and I don't recall exactly what I was doing but I will try to qualify exactly what I was doing if I see it happen more. I think each time I was working with loading maps.
Mostly I was surprised that this happened with no crash report or anything and I lost all my changes that were unsaved. Cubase competely disappeared with no warning or crash report.
I just moved to Cubase 4 a couple of weeks ago and can't say for sure if it was caused by Jamstix, but I haven't seen it without Jamstix either.
I'll keep an eye out for this happening more and try to keep track of exactly what happened.
BTW: I just bought Jamstix over the weekend, so I'm new to it also. |

There are issues with C4. Jamstix is working fine. I had to move my Jamstix folders into the C4 VST plugins folder. I just did a cut a paste. I do get a message that about missing sounds and thatt he DP1 & 2 is not properly installed. Tracking that down now.
If you are having crash problems with C4 check the Cubase forum. More then likly you have a setup issue somewhere.
If you are really using C4 you need some computor poop when you start using some of the new plugs. There is some dongle issues.

I installed Cubase Studio 4 Friday, tried to do the cut and paste thing into the VST Plugins folder and Cubase won't recognize Jamstix at all. Can't load it. Cubase IS picking up other plug-ins I've copied over from my SL3 VST plugins folder - Any thoughts?
On a somewhat unrelated topic, what are the steps to getting multiple (as in 6-10) outs from JS in Cubase SL3/SX3. I've attempted to set it up for 5 voices, then save the project to a new folder and open it as a new project, but I still get 4 outs. Am getting close to needing to render tracks to Audio tracks for pre-mastering at a studio, and need to have my drums as .WAV files on individual tracks.
Thanks. |

Did you just copy the DLL or the whole enchilada? If you copy everything then Jamstix won't find its folder and will ask you for the new location. I recommend you use MiniHost or SAVIHost to load Jamstix and make sure it runs fine and tell it the data location if it asks for it. After that, run the Jamstix Beta installer from the 'General' forum.
After that try C4 again and rescan your plugs if necessary. Also, make sure C4 did not mark Jamstix as unloadable.

Changing plugin outputs in an existing Cubase project can be challenging. I recommend you save the Jamstix state to a FXB file (Save Bank), change the outputs in the Jamstix mapping tab, remove Jamstix from the project, add it back in (you should now see all the new outputs) and then reload the FXB file to restore the internal state of Jamstix. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks - I appreciate the quick response and am looking into this. Once I come up for air after the start of my work week, I'll get into this and do what you suggest. I copied the whole thing, that may be my mistake I've heard lots of people are encountering similar challenges with Cubase 4, and S%$#^berg's deplorable lack of customer service does not make this easier.
However, I had similar issues with the upgrade to version 3, solved them, and ultimately the sound engine always keeps me on Cubase. Also, I should note that your suggestion to switch to a Snare pak kit last week for a punchier sound yielded excellent results in SL3, particularly when I applied Cubase's EQ to the bass drum. The drums lept right out of the mix |

In Cubase4 to add outputs in Devices / VST Instrument/ Jamstix you will see on the far right an E Arrow. Click on that and a window will open to setup outputs.
I did the cut and paste without any issues. Make sure you don't use the VST3 plugin folder.

Get this. So I didn't mention that I had properly run Jamstix Setup and Jamstix Data Setup again, just to be sure. Everything was in the proper folders based upon how Cubase 4 wants to "see" the older VST's. Still no luck. Turned the PC off, then re-booted and tried again late afternoon - No luck.
Turned the PC on this morning, loaded the SAME project, and all of a sudden Jamstix was functioning normally (at least insofar as I could load, assign it as an output etc., haven't tried programming yet). If I didn't like the sound of Cubase so much (I am addicted to that audio engine) I would wave goodbye to Steinberg!
I do have to say I like Studio 4's layout, and the expanded mixer in and of itself is a big help to me. So, we'll see... |

C4 has worked fine for me, although there is a good amonut of complaining on the forum. I wanted the control room functions. And it works great. Once you get in to it I think you will like the new Cubase. The next maintance update should set a lot of things straight.

Actually, I pay no attention to the Cubase.net Forum, I have never in my life seen a bigger bunch of whiners. Most of these people really need an application where customer support provides tons of hand holding, if not at Ralph's level at least several degrees beyond what Steinberg can offer.
I know Yamaha is working very hard to figure out how Steinberg's management infrastructure can be improved, and thank goodness for that buyout. In the long run, it will be very beneficial to the user base. I think most of those people complaining on their Forum really should be using something like Sonar. As my engineer friends all say, if you want to do pro work at home you use Cubase/Nuendo or MOTU DP. The audio engines are unparalleled. You also expect a serious learning curve and six months of reading before you can begin to unravel the power of the applications! If you just want to make music in the most user friendly way and not be bothered researching all the nuances of Steinberg or MOTU stuff, there are plenty of good and affordable choices. SO, everybody DOES get to play inthe sandbox, and that's a good thing!
I also agree that with a maintenance update or two, C4 should be just fine. In fact, things are already working better for me now. Jamstix is functional again, and I installed Ampeg SVX and was utterly blown away by what IK has done there. Now that my rhythm section is together, I am VERY happy. Can't wait for JS2 |

I'm using Jamstix 2 (2.2.1) and Cubase Studio 4 (4.1.2) with Windows XP.
Problem 1:
I can't get multiple outputs to show up in the Cubase mixer. I've tried restarting the host, messing with the number of outputs etc, but every time I get just one stereo channel in Cubase.
Problem 2:
I want to be able to use 2 separate Jamstix 2 instances. However, when I open the second Jamstix 2, the interface is just blank and cannot be interacted with. |

Problem 1: Cubase 4 has a function in the VST rack to show/hide multiple plugin outputs. By default they are hidden.
Problem 2: Jamstix isn't really meant to be run in multiple instance but it should work. Make sure you are using 2.2.2 Beta 17 and, if it still doesn't work, send me the file rzdlog.txt from your 'My Documents/Jamstix2' folder. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks! 3 minutes to get supprt from a web forum! That's what I call good service!
I don't really need multiple instances at the moment, so I'll stick to the non-beta version for now. |
