My workflow currently involves recording a basic click track on guitar with a metronome in Reaper then trying to get the drum track to fit with what I have already recorded. Can I use the Jamstix Audio Jam function to react with what I have recorded and come up with a useable drum track or should I really have Jamstix compose the part first then record the guitar part after the drum track is in place?

Its just easier and quicker for me to put the guitar part down first, but then I have the problem of synching a drum track for it...

I'd suggest to stick with your current workflow, meaning start with recording guitar with a REAPER click track so Jamstix will then be synched automatically. Make sure to select a fitting style/drummer since the audio jam will control dynamics and associated AI reactions but not create a fitting groove by itself.

Thanks Ralph, its a bit hit or miss - for example on a basic 4/4 12 bar I'm working on I chose the 8th Rock style with Phil as the Drummer but all that plays is the high hat and crash cymbal. The kick and snare beats have crosses through them, is there any particular reason why that might happen?

Sounds like the song power knob is all the way left due to low audio jam signal. You have two options:

- increase input trim in JS3 jam options until the song power knob hovers higher in audio jam

OR

- switch to 'Normal Jam' and set the song power knob manually where you want it. You can also set up an envelope in the host to adjust song power during the song as desired

Thats great Ralph, I just set it to Normal Jam and it synchs up pretty well, i can use the click as a guide and then do another audio track that actually matches the Jamstix groove.

Just one thing, do I need to have the Jamstix Midi master track running? I can't use it to make any adjustments to the drum sound anyway.

It can come in handy for MIDI controller events, additional notes or exporting MIDI.

Lets say I don't use a midi controller and render the Jamstix tracks to wav or mp3 in the final mix, I can just use the bar editor to make changes rather than the midi track. In this case is it safe to delete it?

I'd keep it. In some hosts (i.e. SONAR) lack of MIDI track can cause song positioning issues (IIRC).
