|

Hi Guys
I'm new to this e-drum world, and have an Alesis DM10 studio kit. Jamstix was recommended by my tutor, and having tried the demo within Mixcraft I've got to say I'm impressed. I was up and running with little trouble. It's a cracking bit of software. I have recorded a drum midi track in Mixcraft and playback via Jamstix VSTi is fine, except the hi-hat has an open sound when it was played closed.
Alesis acknowledge that this is a problem, and suggest that I re-assign the hi-hat midi number to give me the right sound. So, a few questions;
Is the re-assignment carried out within Jamstix or Mixcraft? If Jamstix, how do I do it, and is this limited due to the fact that I'm using the demo version?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Please check "Reverse Hihat Controller" in the JS3 Options and see if that fixes it. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi Ralph
Thanks for the info, but that didn't work. Judging by the discussions on some forum sites, there seems to be some issues regarding the DM10 hi-hat and controller software, and I think I need to familiarise myself with these.
I was able to re-map the midi key output from the hi-hat using a nifty little bit of third-party software, but this is not a permanent solution.
Whilst you're here, I do have another query. When using Jamstix as a drum module (via my laptop) there is a significant delay between me striking the drum and Jamstix responding with the sound. Is there anything I can try to alleviate this besides buying a new laptop? Thanks
Stephen. |

This is called latency and you can reduce it in the settings for your audio driver. If the audio starts to get choppy/crackling then you've reached the lowest latency your computer can handle and just need to increase a bit until the crackling is gone. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi Ralph
Tweaking the latency has reduced the time lag, but it is still noticable. I've also tweaked the laptop's other settings (power, sounds etc) to extract the maximum performance, but without success. Maybe I need a new laptop!
regards

| My mixing software, Mixcraft 5, shows the latency at 20ms using the Wave RT setting. I'm not sure how to access the latency settings using Vista, but I assume this is the overall setting for the computer? |
