I would like to know about the drums on the demo songs for the Metal Pack. For example, "Demo with Danny" and "Sleepless". I rarely use any additional processing on the drums when I use Jamstix. But when I try to get a heavy metal sound I can't seem to do it. If I use the Metal Pack, will the drums sound like the demo straight from Jamstix (I am referring to the punch or thump)? Will I have to do much EQ and/or compression to get that sound? I would like a kit that pushes through the distortion, etc., WITHOUT me having to fiddle around with the EQ and compression. Will Metal Pack do this for me?
Sincerely,
J.L.

In general, metal drums are usually highly EQ-ed and compressed on recordings.

The 'MetalPak' sound are NOT processed because most users want to use their FX to generate their own unique sound. You can use the compressors in JS but I'd definitely recommend a parametric EQ on the host side to get the punch in the kick as desired.

I find I hve to add FX to pretty much any drums from JamStix via my host...especially if I am working on something hard rock or heavy metal. Jmo

Thanks for the replies!
I understand that the SAMPLES in the pack are not processed. This makes perfect sense. What I am really trying to find out is about the DEMO songs. I guess they are most likely (as Ralph said) heavily EQ'd at the minimum (and probably some compression also). I am really just trying to find out how much work is required to get from the raw samples in Metal Pack to the sound represented in the demo songs.

Just to clarify, yes, the demos are using JS and/or host-side comp/EQ.

Ralph,

Is there any chance on posting some EQ/Comp settings that were applied to the demo's or just some general places to start?

I realize that adding effects to drums (or any instrument for that matter) may be considered a science but some of us (myself included) would love to have some more insight.

We all have different fx modules understandably but perhaps a few generalized settings would suffice.

Plus I just wanted to add how much I appreciate this great plugin you have created. There is nothing else like it and I do not hesitate for others to try it out on other forums when I notice a "What's the best drum VST out there".

Thank you for all that you do.

Excellent. I think that will indeed be a huge help, Ralph. Looking forward to experimenting.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to post these settings.

Cheers.

Those settings are from Josh Pollard who made the demos. I can't take credit for it Smile

I can't speak for the demos, but one thing I always do for Metal tracks is take the kick completely out of the ambiance track. I find it helps the kick cut through especially for fast double bass beats.
