A new song:
Flood Plain
Jamstix contributes a lot that I would have no idea how to invent from scratch... I used Standard Rock with a snare added on 4-1/2 and the velocities adjusted, plus Phil, with a few tweaks, playing Deep Modern downmixed — no kit changes or processing beyond Jamstix internal defaults, except what’s on the mains.
Now, if Jamstix could only get drunk and trash the bathroom, it would be just like having a real drummer... |

I liked most everything I listened to and hope you're sharing your music with a live audience somewhere. It would be a shame to keep it confined to the internet. Some truly inspired moments; "Weeping willows at midnight,.." brilliant.
The voice on "A Friend Request" is wonderful. A tinge of "you know who" but then, you knew that already. It's a good thing and a nice change from the double tracking. Interesting to hear where you would end up if you explored that direction a little bit more but not to the detriment of the rest.
I think you might like Stephin Merritt if you give him a listen. If you haven't already. |

Thank you!
Alas, though I enjoy singing and playing, I’m not cut out to be a performer. There was a lot of computer-based juggling involved in getting those tracks to sound even as good as they do; and still, to my mind, they’re song demos, not finished recordings. I hope people can enjoy listening to them, but I don’t expect them to wind up on anyone’s iPod.
Searchlight (“Weeping willows at midnight”) was Neil Young-inspired. (There’s a hint of his Borrowed Tune in there, but I hope not too much.)
Self-impressions can be tricksy, so I wonder if we heard the same thing. When I wrote and recorded A Friend Request (quickest thing I ever did—from first inkling to finished vocal track in about eight hours, though re-dubbing the piano and making the mix took a few more days), I was quite consciously thinking of Tom Waits.
I have not heard of Stephin Merritt, but I will look him up. |
