I'm all for experimentation.

Rather than using the JC players if we load a JS player into JC it seems to affect the drum kit patterns played in JS. Just wondering though, why doesn't the non-standard JC player stick to just percussion alone and why does he interefere with the loaded JS player's drum patterns? And, is there a way of controlling this somehow, or, should we just be sticking to the two designated JC percussionists as players for JC?

JC players can only be loaded into JC and JS players only into JS. The load dialog does not make that clear, will be refined in a future update.
