Is there a way to host MDrummer with Jamstix?
I'd also like to play the MDrummer samples and kits with Jamstix. |

Load a JS kit, the click 'No Plugin Selected' in the kit window and load MDrummer, then adjust MIDI keys to match. When done, you can save it in JS as a new custom kit. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks much Ralph.
I'll search the documentation for help with midi keys unless I find it in one of the tutorial videos first.
Also looking forward to more vids on topics listed for upcoming vid tutes.
Happy it can be done. |

| I loaded Dry Kevlar (XL) and clicked on Plugin Not Selected, then Add Plugin, then MDrummer.dll and the status message indicated it was being loaded. However, it still says Plugin Not Selected and I don't see MDrummer. |

I just tried to load another drum plugin I'm beta testing.
It looked like it was loading and then I got an address access violation message and a slew of referenced memory messages.
I clicked OK on all of them, FL disappeared and a DOS window opened up with FL.exe in the top bar of the window. I couldn't close it, but it eventually went away.
Maybe I'll try some other drum plugins and see what happens.
I also searched my system, and I was trying to load the most current MDrummer dll that I have. I upgraded to MDrummer 4 Large. |

I had success with IL's Drumaxx. Very nice.
After I loaded a song, it seemed like Drumaxx went way and the Plugin Not Selected message was showing.
I found the Configure VSTI box somewhat minimized and it was blank.
I either loaded Drumaxx again or chose Open Plugin Interface and Drumaxx reappeared.
I did have to increase the audioi outputs to 11 for Drumaxx accommodation.
It appears to work with Drumaxx anyway.
Edit: It appears that every time a new song is loaded, the plugin (Drumaxx) is unloaded from Jamstix leaving the Configure VSTI window blank. Is this a bug?
Edit 2: I just loaded SoftDrum by FrettedSynth and the plugin loaded. When I tried to remove it I got an Index out of bounds error. I just tried it again and didn't get the error. |

A song file in Jamstix contains kit information so when you load a song, your current kit gets overwritten.
If you use the song builder, you can keep it from replacing the current kit by clicking on the kit label in the song builder (strike-thru).
If you build a nice kit with an external plugin, you should save it as a new kit so you can reload it quickly whenever you need it. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks for reply regarding kits.
Do you have a notion why I'm having problems with MDrummer and other drum plugins that Jamstix is having trouble with? |

We test all major drum plugins (BFD, Superior, EZDrummer etc.) but we cannot test all of them
Alternatively, you can use the MIDI out of Jamstix to "drive" MDrummer in your host. This is especially easy in REAPER: just load Jamstix and then MDrummer as FX onto the same track. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks for help and suggestion to use Reaper.
Will I need to do any midi mapping for that to work?
Will there be no way to get plugins like MDrummer to work within Jamstix until you revise Jamstix to accommodate specific plugins that won't work?
Is there a list of plugins that do work in Jamstix?
If they aren't on the list, will it mean that the ones not on the list will not work? |

Yes, you can adjust the MIDI keys in JS to match what the other plugin expects. Now save it as a kit in JS and that's it. You will also want to check 'MIDI OUT ONLY' in the JS mixer when driving other plugins via MIDI so JS doesn't waste memory on samples.

We don't have a list but I can tell you that MDrummer is the only drum plugin I know of that doesn't work subhosted in JS at this time. It may use an odd implementation of the VST interface that collides with JS's host side. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi Ralph. I unwittingly was trying to load an older version of MDrummer into Jamstix. I finally got my vst versions sorted and Jamstix successfully loads my latest version of MDrummer Large 4.00.
Thanks for your help. I hope this also may help someone else. |
