1. Start Reaper.
2. Drag-drop Jamstix VST(i) anywhere into empty TCP area.
3. When asked "Do you want to add the following tracks for this effect?", answer "Yes" to create individual output tracks.
Depending on the number of output channels you selected in Options tab, a number of new empty tracks will be created (JS3 Out 1, JS3 Out 2 and so on). However, they are initially set to receive only audio, not MIDI.
You can also answer "No" and set up each track individually later, if you want.
4. In Reaper, set up each channel to record MIDI.
Right-click into track VU meter and select "Record: output" -> "Record: output (MIDI)".
When you record arm the track, it should read "MIDI output".
5. In Jamstix, go to KIT tab and set each kit piece to go to its own MIDI channel (up to 16) with the "Channel" control.
If you want to record audio as well, set individual audio output channels with "Output" control.
Just click each kit piece and set appropriate controls for it. Initially, all kit pieces receive and send data via channel 1.
6. In Reaper, open each track's routing dialog and set up MIDI routing.
Now just select appropriate input MIDI channel for each kit piece you set up in Jamstix in step 5. You can leave output MIDI channel on "All".
If you don't need audio to be routed, you can set "Audio" to "none". "Master/parent Send" can also be turned off, if there is no audio.
7. Record arm tracks you want to record, and hit the "Record" button. Individual MIDI data should be recorded into respective tracks. Something like this:
8. Route these MIDI tracks into some drum sampler and enjoy.
Btw, there is another way to achieve this: you can record all MIDI data into one track, but set individual MIDI events to go different MIDI channels.
Note, however, that there is much more than 16 MIDI "channels/notes" output from Jamstix. Snare uses at least 4 different MIDI notes, for example (snare offset, snare side, snare center, snare bounce).
