|
|
I have a few questions to do with styles and importing midi grooves.
Manual pg 49
"Turn Groove Into A Style
will take the bar data and save it to ‘Bar Groove’. It then loads the ‘Import’ style into the current part, sets it to JS2 or JS3 Groove and loads the ‘Bar Groove’ data. This is a quick way to turn a bar into a style to groove on."
I'm a little confused by the "Bar Groove".
Say I have a base midi groove I import. If I make changes to it and use the above command it always saves it as "Bar Groove"
. I then save that as a style preset which allows me to rename before saving.
But then if I load another import style with a different midi clip and do the same process it also saves it as "Bar Groove".
Doesn't this overwrite the previous style preset using a JSx Groove with Bar Groove? Can I rename these "Bar Groove" JSx Grooves to something else or save them as something more meanginful?
Also how do I delete style presets - from the Import style, for example?
Is it simply a matter of deleting the [style name]_style preset name.pre from the js3 styles subdirectory and restarting JS3?
Is it possible to create your own complete styles? for example, to clone the import style so I don't fill up the JS3 default import style with a bunch of presets not related to a base import style?

It will overwrite the bar file on disk but the original project still carries the original bar data. The file itself is just a temp file so to speak.

You can if you wish to use them in other projects. You could also just use "Save bar', specify a desired name and then use the 'Import' style.

Correct.

Not yet possible since original style name is carried within your clone. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Another question on:

What advantage are there in turning an import midi clip into a JS2 groove, if the brain operates on the import midi and the import js2 groove the same way?
Is there extra functionality that the turning groove into style gives you?
Just trying to get my head straight on this...

If you have a MIDI groove as a file, use 'Import'->'MIDI' but if you edit a groove yourself in the bar editor, use 'Turn Groove Into Style'. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
