I use Jamstix3 in Ableton Live 8 and trigger the various scenes using a foot controller. To get Jamstix to change parts, I put a small MIDI clip in the Jamstix track for each scene that sends a program change message to Jamstix, telling it to change to a new part.

This works fine, unless it's at the very start of a song. Putting a LiveLoop trigger here causes Jamstix to go silent (it cycles through the bars, but the brain doesn't generate anything) and any subsequent triggers also fail to do anything. Ableton also seems to go a bit funny and hangs/crashes some time afterwards, although I can't be sure the two things are related (how would you tell Rolling Eyes ).

Due to the nature of Ableton, I need to put the MIDI message right at the start of the clip (it doesn't make any difference if it's a PC or a note message), otherwise Jamstix doesn't receive it early enough and changes part a bar late. However, a bit of experimentation shows that if the MIDI message starts fractionally late, Jamstix seems to work OK even if the trigger is at the very start of the song (ignoring the fact that it played one bar of the first part before switching to the one I actually wanted).

I had a similar problem with Jamstix 2 and never got to the bottom of it but I rather suspect it's the same thing.

I can send through a project that demonstrates the problem, do you need anything else?

I emailed you a project pretty much straight after you posted but I never heard back from you. Did you get it?

Hi,
I bounce an old thread to point out that I have exactly the same issue and I think that this problem might prevent liveloop mode to function properly in Live's CLIP view.

I have posted a video on youtube to illustrate the issue.

PLEASE CHECK IT OUT

After some more research I have found out that in CLIP mode it works only if:

1. click on the upper red button in Live (the one to give linear mode priority)
2. start the sequence (without any midi trigger at the beginning of the sequence)
3. launch any clip with trigger from jamstix track

I'm using Ableton Live 8.2.2 + Jamstix 3.1.2

Thanks
