When I load an old song file created in JS2, it has "jamstix 2 - slingerland (xl) as the kit with the default settings. After previewing other kits in JS3 with the same song loaded, I go back to Slingerland (xl) in the preview menu and I don't get the old kit back. The mixer settings are different. Why is this? Thanks.

"Slingerland (XL)" in JS3 is different from "Jamstix 2 - Slingerland (XL)". _________________ Ralph Zeuner

A different kit? Where is JS2-Slingerland located? Is JS3 XL pac different than JS2 XL pac? Should/can I load JS2 XL pac. I'm confussed and ignorant.

The XL sounds are the same for JS2 and JS3. However, the XL kits are different because they take advantage of the new JS3 sounds. You can see the JS2 Slingerland kit because it is preserved within the song file you loaded. If you wish to have it on disk to be loaded in other projects, please load the JS2 song file and then save the kit. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Ralph, as always, you are very patient and helpful. Best I can tell from my limited understanding is that the kits are the same, but the default preset eq, etc. are different between JS2 and 3 - that I could change mixer settings in slingerland 3 to match slingerland 2 and vice versa. Thanks.

The kits are not the same (IIRC). If you like the JS2 kit better then I recommend you do this:
- load JS2 song with this kit into JS3
- save kit in JS3 to kit folder where desired with a name like 'JS2 Slingerland' or similar. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

So then, if JS 2 and 3 xl pacs are different, can I load JS2 xl pac in 3? If not, why would 3 recognize a 2 kit from a song file and not otherwise? I figured you had nothing better to do than answer my somewhat trivial questions, Ralph.

The XL Pak is the same for JS2 and JS3. The difference is the kit files that come with JS2 and JS3. Since song files store the kit, loading a JS2 song file can give you a JS2 XL kit. However, the kit file is not on disk so you cannot load it otherwise unless you save it yourself as I described. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
