Hi everyone, I've just finished up my first song with Jamstix and would like to see what everyone thinks. It's a complete redo of an old song of mine called "Are You Gonna Be Around". It's classic rock in the vein of a heavier CSN&Y.

Looking forward to any comments,

Thanks,

It's got a nice feel to it.Well recorded. Some of the doubled vocals need tightening up I think. Also you are dropping a hi-hat at the ends of bars and it makes it sound disjointed to me.
It has potential but also needs more ambience also known as,"Glue" to the mixing sound. There are several ways of doing this.I use Reaper,

http://www.cockos.com/reaper/

for recording and when I want,"Glue" a type of song to make it sound less like a home recording and a trick the pros use is to make an FX track and add a reverb to that track. Then route all the tracks to it except say the kick drum and add various amounts of that reverb. This way it avoids making some sounds too dry and different reverb clashes to the,"Ambience".You can still apply this to guitars/vocals etc have their own reverb on them. This technique can make a song sound more glossy and together sonically but you only use a really subtle amount almost subliminal.

I use two free great reverbs.

FreeverbToo

and Antress Spacer part of this superb free pack of VST FX tools

Thanks for listening Sheppol_A, I'm going to give your tip a try, I never thought about doing that. I've used a bit of reverb on the Master Buss before, but this sounds like it might work even better.
