Hi - I've got a Cubase SX3 song, and I've put together a song structure in the Song List in JS2. Then I play it through. Then I save the song in JS2, go to bed, and come back the next morning to work again. Let's say I call the file I saved "Song 1".

When I play through the song the next morning, will I hear a) the exact drum hits that were played the day before?, or b) something new that the brain puts together? Does saving "Song 1" save all the drum hits, or just the song structure (Verse/Chorus, etc.)?

A similar question: Let's say at some point I play through and I pretty much like what I hear, and think it is something that would be good after a little editing. How do I "lock" all the drum hits so the next time I play through the song the same drum hits are heard, and that awesome groove isn't lost forever?

Thanks for some basic newb training here -

Unless you change brain settings, JS2 will repeat the last performance, even after a project file save/reopen. If you want to be really safe, you can store revision points of your song with the disc icon. You can reload those via the song menu if needed.

OK, a few weeks later and many hours of work further into this prompts a follow up question - I thought I understood it better then than I do now!

I notice that in Jam mode it continuously changes the drum hits in the bars when you rewind and play it again. I think that is the purpose of Jam mode, makes sense, and is a wonderful thing.

But is there a way to play back, without having the brain actively changing drum hits? Without having to lock each bar one at a time? Can one lock the whole project, and then individually unlock single bars as needed?

I know one way to do it, but it takes multiple steps: Lock each bar, record the JS2 output to a MIDI track in Cubase SX3, then replay the MIDI track using JS2 in "Drum Module" mode. But, come to think of it, I still have to lock the bars when I play back, otherwise it will change them on replay?

Thanks for helping me on this one!

The drums won't change on repeat unless you hit the COMP button or move a slider in the brain. There are small red bars under each tick in the bar editor. When they are lit then that part of the bar is composed and won't change. When they go out then the part of the bar is being recomposed/changed.

Thanks, Ralph.

You mentioned in a previous posting that the red line at the bottom of the icon meant the event is being shuffled. Are there two kinds of red lines?

Thanks!

The red line I was talking about is not under the icon but at the bottom of the bar editor.
