|
|
Can someone help me here? I've got a bar that has 1/8 sig (the song is 4/4, the 1/8 sig bar is sandwiched between two 2/4 sig bars).
I have manually placed a snare and a kick in the first beat of the measure (labelled "1" at the top) , and also in the 2nd beat ("-"). I want a snare and kick note in each of the two beats of the 1/8 measure every time I play the song.
What happens is that no matter how many times I back up to the beginning of the song and play through the measure, it is unpredictable whether I will get a snare/kick beat in each beat of the 1/8 measure, or just in one of them.
I have the note locked (yellow bar up the side); the bar locked; forced hits "on" for each of the two beats of the measure; shuffle off for the measure; and kick/snare grooves disabled in the brain for the measure.
What am I not doing, or doing wrong here?
Thanks! _________________ Alexis

Did you set-up each part in JS2 with the correct time signature? _________________ Ralph Zeuner

If you mean in the Song List, absolutely. Thanks for your answer! If you want me to send the file, please let me know its name and location ... and do I email to you?

OK, thanks Ralph. Would you please tell me the specific name and location of the project file? I saw that nice info for the log files in the JS2 manual, may have missed it for the project file =

The project file is the file that you save to in your host. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I'm sorry for being such an idiot, Ralph - do you want my SX3 project file? _________________ Alexis

It might be best just to send me the JS2 song file. Load the project, go to the song menu, use 'Save Song' and send me that file. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks, Ralph! |
Hi Ralph - While waiting, I had an idea I tried out, here are the results, maybe it will help in your troubleshooting.
First, in Song, I muted fills and accents. That did not make a difference - it was still random and unpredictable whether both single drum hits were played in the 1/8 measure.
Then I thought to rearrange my sig, so there was not a 1/8 measure, but rather a 5/8 measure. With the song accent and fills still muted, the two drum hits in what was previously the 1/8 measure were played every single time.
I haven't gone and seen whether unmuting would affect that, but at least as of now, my conclusions are:
1) JS2 had a hard time playing the programmed hits in the abrupt transition from a 2/4 measure to a 1/4 measure.
2) JS2 did fine as long as there wasn't a 1/8 measure (like going 2/4 to 5/8 ).
So maybe a single bar of 1/8 is too much expected?
Anyway, thanks for your thoughts so far and for the future too! _________________ Alexis

I've looked at your project and the problem appears to be the shortness of the 1/8 bar. For something as unusual as this song structure, I recommend you export parts from JS to the host, switch Jamstix to drum module mode and finalize the MIDI in the host. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks, Ralph. I've got it working by simply putting the 1/8 measure at the tail end of the previous measure. I'll keep your suggestion in mind for future troubleshooting.
Thanks again! _________________ Alexis
